Fred Shultz

Frederick “Fred” Michael Shultz, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo. He was born October 13, 1944 to Mike and Vera Shultz in Sheridan, WY. At the age of 10, he and his family moved to Elliott, ND where he spent the remainder of his childhood. In 1962, he graduated from Lisbon High School. Following graduation, he joined the Army National Guard.
After his time in the service he moved to Fargo. In 1966 he married Loretta Holmstrom and they had two children, Michelle and Michael. In 1967 he joined the Fargo Fire Department where he served for 34 years, retiring in 2001.
In 1984 he married LeeAnn Weber in Hillsboro, ND. They had one child together, Aaron.
Fred loved to spent time outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, boating or snowmobiling. In his spare time, he loved to watch NASCAR and all other races. Fred was an avid reader, and read anything he could get his hands on. He also loved to spend time with his friends and family, especially his grandson, Aidden.
He is survived by his wife, LeeAnn; children, Aaron Shultz, Michelle Jimenez, and Michael (Brenda Murray) Shultz; twin sister, Flora (Duane) Sulerud; brother-in-law, Ralph Weber; father-in-law, Lloyd Weber; grandchildren, Aidden, Sam, Dana; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Kimo Jimenez; and mother-in-law, Yvonne Weber.
Memorials preferred to Humane Society Fargo Moorhead, Riveredge Hospice, or Roger Maris Cancer Center.

clarinda iaso sorry to see news on fred. he looked the same and had a good life. we will always remember staying with fred and flora after school in Elliot at their grocery store til mom came and picked us up.

FRED WAS AN OUTSTANDING FIREMAN,A GOOD PERSON,AND A TRUE FRIEND. DIDN’T SEE TOO MUCH OF HIM AFTER RETIREMENT, BUT WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET A CHAIR NEXT TO HIM AT CHIEF HOOVERS RETIREMENT PARTY. CAUGHT UP ON A LOT.HE WILL BE MOURNED AND MISSED BY THOSE WHO KNEW HIM.

I will never forget the day Fred came to see me at KXJB with a few of his fellow fire fighters. After introductions, he told me they helped save my life back in 1990, when I was in a nasty car accident. I was speechless… and very touched by the jesture! He was always very kind to me.

I met Fred during our freshman year in high school and hunted with him in the following years of high school. I was best man for him when he got married to Loretta. Our lives went different directions after high school but I always considered him a good friend. Many times as I was headed home late at night and passed Hickson on the interstate, I looked over and thought of Fred. Maybe something was telling me to go have a beer with him, but I never did and for that I am very sorry. Fred was a great guy with a winning personality. I sent an email to our high school classmates and have had several responses.

LeeAnn, I was sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. Even though we lost touch after he retired, there were many good memories of the times we had at the Department. His smile alone was all Fred’s. I know he will be missed.
