Gary Odegaard

Gary L. Odegaard, 55, Kindred, ND died Friday, November 7, 2003 in rural Hickson, North Dakota. Gary Lee Odegaard was born June 8, 1948 in Fargo, North Dakota to Melford and Annette (Erickson) Odegaard. Gary went to Pleasant #8 School, rural Hickson, ND through the 8th grade before attending Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN graduating in 1966. Gary attended NDSU for a time and took a year of auto mechanics at Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He enlisted in the North Dakota Army Reserve and worked at Rustad's, The Farmers Union, and Art Johnson's Korner Service all located in Kindred. In 1973 he purchased the Korner Service and owned it for nineteen years, selling it in 1992. For the last eleven years he has been working for Odegaard Aviation, Kindred. In 1991 Gary married Cheryl Mairs. Gary was active in the Kindred American Legion, Kindred Lions, Kindred Wild Life, Kindred Ambulance, Kindred Volunteer Fire Department and the Kindred Lutheran Church. He also helped with the Hospice of the Red River Valley. He loved working with cars, airplanes, fishing and hunting and spending time at their lake home at Little Cormorant, MN. He was always there to help anyone that was in need. Gary is survived by his wife, Cheryl, son Brian Odegaard, Watertown, SD, daughter, Deanna (Nathan) Opgrand, Fargo, ND and step son Garett Mairs, 3 brothers, Marvin Odegaard, Tonto Basin, AZ, Thomas (Bonnie) Odegaard, Kindred, ND, Robert (Donna) Odegaard, Kindred, ND and a sister Gloria (Fuller) Sheldon, Mapleton, ND and many nieces and nephews.
