Obituary

Gerald W. Rheault, 65, Horace passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at his home from cancer surrounded by his loving family.

Gerald was born December 3, 1946 in Fargo, North Dakota to Wilfred and Lillian (Cossette) Rheault. He grew up in Horace, graduating from St. Joseph’s High School in 1964. After graduating, he attended Interstate Business College for a year when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, he returned to Horace and completed his accounting degree.

On August 1, 1970, he married Paulette “Paully” Wise at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Horace. To this union, three sons were born and the family made their home in Fargo.

Gerald worked for 35 years at the Fargo Post Office, retiring November 30, 2007.

Gerald loved to play horseshoes. He won multiple state and local horseshoe tournaments and was an honored member of the Wild Rice Horseshoe League. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed driving around on his Kobota tractor. He always kept busy, helping on various home improvement projects.  Together Gerald and Paully had a lake place on Prairie Lake in MN for 20 years.

One of his passions was spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paulette; children, Jamie (Jennifer) Rheault, Moorhead, MN; Jesse (Lyndsay) Rheault, Fargo, ND; Joey (Megan) Rheault, St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Alexis, Fargo, ND and Isaac, Moorhead, MN; two brothers, Maurice (Joyce) Rheault, Fargo, ND, and Clarence Rheault, Fargo, ND; and three sisters, Rachel Sauvageau, Caldwell, ID, Rosemarie (Arcade) Duval, Fargo, ND, Joanne (Les)  Johnson, Everett, WA, and sister-in-law, Leonie Rheault, Horace, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.

On behalf of all the Clerks and Maintenance employees of the Fargo Post Office we express our deepest sympathies. Gerry was one of the best co-workers a person could ever hope for. His upbeat and positive attitude brightened the work place every day. Everyone loved to work with Gerry because he always had a joke to tell and a smile on his face. He instantly recognized when someone was having a bad day and would go out of his way to help cheer them up. Thinking back on the times I worked with Gerry I can not recall a single time when he was angry or upset. In a place where complaints can sometimes be common, Gerry always uplifted those around him. His infectious laughter and smile has been missed since he retired, but never forgotten. Gerry will always hold a special place in our hearts.

    Sincerely,

    John D. Durham, Vice President

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Gerald, the WRHL lost another great pitcher and we will miss him dearly. He was always there to pitch in and help out with whatever task needed to get done! Everybody enjoyed his sense of humor and he was tough as nails to beat on the horseshoe courts. He was involved with the Wild Rice Horseshoe League for nearly 30 yrs. as a player, Vice President and mentor to many other players. What I remember the most about Gerald is he was very humble when he won a game and was very gracious when he lost (which was not very often). I will miss enjoying a beer with him after the game!

On behalf of the WRHL, we express our sincerest sympathies to the entire Gerald Rheault family on your loss. May he go with the grace of god.
