Gerald J. Stangler passed away Thursday, December 3 in Villa Maria nursing home, Fargo. Gerald James Stangler was born in Valley City, ND, on May 7, 1927, to Ernest and Louise Stangler. He grew up on a farm near Lucca, ND, graduating from Fingal High School in 1945. Mr. Stangler served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46. After his discharge, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, now North Dakota State University, graduating in 1951. He worked in Forman, ND, and Williston, ND, with the Farmers Home Administration. In 1953 he married Dorothy Mae Ertelt in Valley City. They made their home in Williston, ND. In 1955, they moved to Bottineau where he was the assistant county agent for Bottineau County. In 1958, they moved to Rolla, where he worked as the county agent for Rolette County. Gerald and family moved to Fargo in 1968, and worked for Fleet Wholesale in Valley City and Archie’s in Dilworth, MN. He was with the Fargo school system as a custodian until his retirement in 1997. Gerald was a member of the Knights of Colombus and the American Legion, Fargo. In retirement, Gerald volunteered at the local food pantry, Churches United for the homeless, and various church functions. Mr. Stangler is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, Fargo, children; Dianne (Greg) Gibb, Fargo, ND, Mary Stangler (Rokelle Lerner), St. Paul, MN, Linda (Tom) Dooher, Moorhead, MN, Joan (Mark) Eckrich, Centennial, CO, brother, Ray (Ethel) Stangler, Valley City, ND, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Beckerleg, Evelyn (Donovan) Schmidt, and grand-daughter, Michelle Dooher. There will be a visitation starting at 4 in Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo, on Sunday, December 6, followed by a prayer service at 4:30 in the church. The funeral mass will be at 2:30 pm, Monday, December 7 in Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo. Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Arrangements by Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo
