Gerald "Tiny" Pfeifer

gerald

Gerald “Tiny” Pfeifer, 55, Fargo, ND passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Manor Care, Fargo. He was born on December 9, 1958 to Edward and Evelyn (Ness) Pfeifer in Fargo, North Dakota.  He grew up in Fargo and graduated from South High School in 1977.

Following graduation, he continued working in the service department for Selland Motors in Fargo, later Moorhead.  Tiny later worked for Muscatell Dodge and then Muscatell Kia, where he retired in 2008 due to medical reasons.  He was greatly admired for his work, and wherever he went, he saw one of his many satisfied customers.

Tiny loved spending time outdoors, whether it was golfing, boating, or raising tomatoes for his famous green tomato pickles.  Food was one of his greatest passions, whether it be eating or cooking it.  He took great joy in preparing food for his work crew, or anyone else in his life.  Watching NASCAR was another one of Tiny’s hobbies.

He is survived by his siblings, Cindy (Jim) Taylor, Fargo; Deb Walla, West Fargo; and Shirley Pfeifer, Spanaway, WA; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Gaffney; and brother, Tim Pfeifer.

Gerry was so fun. I knew him through my cousin Rod Schafer. He was the big charmer who knew everyone everywhere. He made any place better. I’m sorry to see him go. I have no doubt that he is riding a cloud somewhere doing something incredibly fun. Best Wishes, Gerry.

5-6-14: Dear Deb and Cindy, tonight I received a call from my daughter who just found out about Jerrys passing. Ashley, Amber and I would have been there if we would have known. We are so sorry we missed the service. I had just talked to Jerry the week before he passed. We talked for almost 2 hours. I didn’t even know he was at Manor Care. It was so good to see him and we had such a nice visit. I had planned to stop in and see him again and so did the girls. We spend many weekends with him and he was such a big part of our lives, especially the time he spend with the girls at the lakes and grilling in his back yard. He holds a special place in our hearts. Sending you and your family our thoughts and prayers. Nancy Schaffer

  3. I remember Tiny from South and would often run into him at Sellands getting service on our cars. He was always so friendly and will always be one of my favorite people. RIP.

  4. MOORHEAD MINNESOTAALWAYS ENJOYED TALKING TO TINY WHEN I WOULD RUN INTO HIM AT SELLANDS OR MUSCATELL SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS

  5. Moorhead Tiny’s warm smile will be missed. My choice of vehicle make followed Tiny’s path because I knew if he had a hand in the service dept things would be done right. He was a great one who left us too young. I hope his reunion with his parents, brother and sister is joyous.

  6. fargo ndi was a tech on tiny’s team at muscatell’s. we used to go back and forth with the ‘white zone, red zone’ skit from the movie ‘airplane’, sticking to the movie dialog in the beginning, but then morphing it into our own version. may you rest in peace.

  7. Barnesville MnA great man that will truly be missed by many. I enjoyed the years we worked together at Muscatell’s in Moorhead and his recipes and food that he shared with his friends. God speed Tiny!

  8. Moorhead MN
I enjoyed your company when I was at work. Even when I was having a bad day, you would listened and give advice. You truly cared about others and I will definitely miss that about you. R.I.P Tiny!!

  9. Grand Junction COTo Tiny’s Family,

I was so sorry to hear about Tiny’s death. I fondly remember Tiny from his days at Selland Pontiac in the late 1980’s when he would always welcome me with his big gravelly voice whenever I would come in for service. He treated everyone with respect, kindness and considered everyone a friend.

In later years my father was also a resident at Manor Care and Tiny still had that warm, infectious voice to say “hi” to everyone that would pass by.

    RIP my friend.

  10. I’m sad that I will be out of town for the memorial service. I worked with Tiny at Selland Motors. He always did things to watch over me and make me feel special. From bringing me soups, cheese popcorn, buying me lunches and drinks (after hours), and making sure on the real cold days that my car was started and warmed up before I left to pick up my kids. Even though I asked him to stop, he continued to send me flowers for my birthday each year. He sure had a knack of making people feel special and amazed me how he could remember names. Another thing he would like to do is buy my 4 boys treats from the vending machines. And once and a while he would pick the treats. Yes, Mountain Dew and messiest chocolate bar he could find. He would tell them to open it and eat it on the way home. The next day, while I would walk by and ignore him, he would say, “hey Mare, what time did your kids go to bed last night and how long did it take you to clean them up”? Then I would have to listen to that deep/hissy laugh he had every time he saw me that day:)
    He will be missed!!!

I got to know Tiny mostly in the Internet Cafe here at ManorCare. We’d both be working on the computers. I was sorry to hear he’d died and have missed him already.

Wonderful photo of “Tiny” – thanks for choosing it. I met Tiny at the Sellands Moorhead Service department. No matter what had just happened to my vehicle, whenever Tiny was there, he would be watching over things like a guardian angel. I can still remember when Cheryl and Fred met me walking their dogs in the neighborhood and they said, “Lucy, call Tiny…he found out there something wrong with something with the transmission in your van and GM is replacing the transmissions at no cost to you.”

I had not gotten any such notice from GM. But Tiny was my advocate, looking out for me to ensure that our van was prepared as we traveled and camped, sometimes a far distance from a service department or even a road to take to where we camped. (I was known to go anywhere there was a path off the road to the place less traveled in my van)

Now of course there’s GPS…yet I still doubt that cell service would be available where I went.

I can still see Tiny laughing as we shared the stories.

  20. I am so saddened to hear that Tiny has passed away. He was great help to me when I had problem with my car on a cold night with my 2 year old grandson in my car. He arranged for a tow truck and waited way past the time he was to go home, just so he could help me and get me a car to drive at the dealership. What a wonderful soul.
