Gerold “Smoke Stack” Kukert Horace, North Dakota Gerold, known as “smoke stack” to many, was born on September 6, 1940, the son of Albert and Leona (Huether) Kukert in Denhoff, ND. He grew up in this area and received his education in Denhoff and McClusky, ND. He moved to Fargo, ND and began his career in the trucking industry working for Reile’s Transfer. Gerold and his wife Joan raised their sons, Steven and John in Fargo where he worked for Midwest Motors Express and Martin Transport LTD. Gerold was united in marriage to Diane Nelson on October 1, 1989. They most recently have made their home in Horace, ND. Throughout his life, Gerold loved his days in the truck. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Diane, and attending races with friends. Gerold is survived by his wife, Diane of Horace; his children, Steven (Michelle) Kukert of Medford, OR; Racheal (Gary) Storms of Sabin, MN; Stacey Nelson of Hawley, MN; Zachary (Carmen) Nelson of Ulen, MN; 16 grandchildren; and 3 great grandsons. Also surviving are his siblings, Larry (Sharon) Kukert of Fargo; Delano (Kay) Kukert of West Fargo; Clyde (JoEllen) Kukert of Bismarck, ND; Sherleen (Terry) Larson of Fargo; Allen (Patricia) Kukert of Moorhead, MN; and Carol (James) Sharp of Cottage Grove, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Leona; his son, John; his daughters, Renae and Robin; and his best friend, Kenny. VISITATION: 5-7 PM Friday, June 19, 2009 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo – and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Saturday PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Friday at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo FUNERAL SERVICE: 10 AM Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo (613 16th Street South) Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo.
