Obituary

Gertrude Diehl entered into her heavenly home on March 30, 2004, in the Hillsboro Nursing Home.

Gertrude Signe Qualsett was born February 25, 1911, on a ranch east of Petersburg, Nebraska, daughter of Olaf and Ida (Johnson) Qualsett. She attended grade school in the country and graduated from high school at Petersburg as salutatorian. She then attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and received a 2 year certificate. Gertrude moved on to teach 5th and 6th grades in Castlewood, South Dakota, there she met Ralph Diehl and they were married July 14, 1931, at Petersburg, Nebraska. Ralph and Gertrude moved to Hillsboro in 1931 and started farming.

Gertrude was an active member of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, teaching Sunday School for 15 years, sang in the Church Choir and was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Homemaker?s Club, Women?s Club, Traill County Historical Society, Golf Club, and the Order of Eastern Star.

During her many years as an Eastern Star member she was elected Worthy Grand Matron of North Dakota in 1960.

Gertrude also loved her hobbies, such as gardening, bridge, knitting, and crocheting. Each year she would make Christmas tree ornaments for her grandchildren. She also made a Christmas stocking for everyone in the family.

Gertrude and Ralph had two sons, Harlan and Roger. When her husband Ralph died in 1993 they had been married 62 years.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; her son, Harlan; her 3 brothers, Clarence, Orville, and Harold; and her sister, Margaret Flood. Gertrude is survived by a son, Roger (Marlene) of Hillsboro; a daughter-in-law, Sonja Diehl also of Hillsboro; 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

VISITATION: 3-6 PM Friday at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro – and one hour prior to the service in the church on Saturday

FUNERAL: 11 AM Saturday at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro

BURIAL: Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro
