Gladys Bakko

Gladys M. Bakko 88, Walcott, ND died January 31, 2008 at the Elim Care Center, Fargo, North Dakota. Gladys Marie Narum was born May 18, 1919 on a farm near Douglas, ND to Nels and Hilda (Kuntz) Narum. She grew up and attended Crystal School in Rosemount Township, rural Douglas. At the age of 18 she moved to Walcott, ND and worked as a housekeeper and cook at various area farms. She also worked at the Ulness Caf? in Walcott. She married Wilfred Bakko on December 1, 1940 at the Walcott Lutheran Church. They moved to Santa Monica, California in 1940 where she helped build military aircraft at the Douglas Aircraft Company. In 1945 they returned to farm the Bakko farm at rural Walcott. She moved to the Evergreen Assisted Living Center in Fargo in May of 2004. Since August 2005, she has resided at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND. Gladys was a loving wife and mother who passed on values of faith, family, hard work and the importance of education to her children. She loved working in her flower garden and made the best lefse. She was a longtime member of the Walcott Lutheran Church and participated in WELCA and taught Sunday School. Gladys is lovingly survived by her husband of 67 years, Wilfred, two sons Dennis (Nannette) Walcott, ND; Marvin (Deb) Fargo, ND; daughter Bonnie and friend Kathi Cordiner, Port Orange, FL; daughter Patty (Brad) Braaten, Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren Shaina Bakko, St. Louis Park, MN; Jared Bakko, Fargo, ND; Matthew Bakko, Fargo ND; Summer (Jesse) Kath and Trevor (Eyleen) Braaten, Prior Lake, MN; step-grandson Dan Stephney, Fargo, ND.; great-grandchildren Sienna and Lyla Kath, Prior Lake, MN; brothers Nels (Marian) Narum, Douglas, ND; Gailen (Edna) Narum, Bismarck, ND; sisters Florence (Bob) O?Shea, Turtle Lake, ND; Hazel O?Shea, Garrison, ND; Isabel (Gene) Groninger, Douglas, ND; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Narum, Douglas, ND; Thelma Narum, Minot, ND; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Wayne, parents, brothers Norman, Melvin, Harold and Hilbert. Visitation: Monday, February 4, 2008 from 5-7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Fredrickson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND. Funeral: Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1 PM Walcott Lutheran Church, Walcott, ND with visitation one hour before the service. Burial: Walcott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Alzheimer?s Association.
