Obituary

Glenn Douglas Schlicht, 81, of Fargo, ND, passed peacefully at his home with his wife and children at his side on July 7, 2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Glenn was born on June 15, 1934 in Devils Lake, ND to parents Edward and Florence (Gunderson) Schlicht.  He graduated from Leeds High School in 1952 and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 – 1956 and was stationed in Guam, Rapid City, SD and Denver, CO.  Glenn met the love of his life, Angie Gross at a dance in Rugby, ND and they were married on June 15, 1956.

After returning home from the service, Glenn graduated from Brown’s Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, MN.  He worked in radio and television broadcasting for over 40 years and was the recipient of numerous United Press International Broadcast Awards.  Glenn had the honor of interviewing many celebrities and politicians including George Bush, Billy Graham, Paul Harvey and Jay Leno.

Glenn was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1957 and was a charter K of C member at Nativity Church in Fargo, ND.  He was also a member of the adult choir and was a Proclaimer at Nativity.  He loved to entertain and sing. In his free time he traveled around the Red River Valley to sing and play the accordion at over 40 senior care facilities as well as organizations such as the Sons of Norway.  Glenn loved to bake homemade bread and smoke sausage.  By far, however, Glenn’s favorite pastime was spending time with his friends and family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 59 years, Angie; one sister, LaVerne Mitzel, Devils Lake, ND; three daughters, Karen (David) Sather, Hillsboro, ND, Colleen (Daniel) Eck, Fargo, ND, Sheryl (Rick) Tobar, Grand Prairie, TX and three sons Dewey (Shari Permann) , West Fargo, ND, Daniel (Kathy), Fargo, ND and Doug (Dana), Appleton, WI; nine grandchildren: Austin Scott, San Francisco, CA, Jamie (Nate) Bruns, Thief River Falls, MN, Jordan Schlicht (Aaron Banister) Clearwater, MN, Jessie Schlicht, Fargo, ND,  Sarah (Nick) Bruns, West Fargo, ND, Joshua Schlicht, Fargo, ND, Grace Schlicht, Appleton, WI, William Schlicht, Appleton, WI and Matthew Schlicht, Appleton, WI; three great-grand-children: Annabelle and Amelia Bruns, Thief River Falls, MN and Carter Bruns, West Fargo, ND; and many, many nieces and nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Lucille Douglas and Lorraine Enger.

There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center with visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Nativity Catholic Church.  Interment will be at Holy Cross South Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Amit Panwalkar and the team at Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo as well as Hospice of the Red River Valley for the care and compassion they showed while treating Glenn throughout his illness.

Glenn was a consummate professional throughout his career. I would recognize his voice the moment I heard it on the radio. We enjoyed seeing he and Angie at the WDAY Alumni group luncheons and I had talked to him on the phone only a couple of weeks ago. I knew about his battle with cancer but I was still shocked at hearing of his passing. May God be with Angie and the family and God bless the memory of Glenn Douglas Schlicht.
