Ida “Earlene” Zakopyko, age 70, died June 4, 2012 at her home in Casselton, ND after a prolonged period of illness. 

Earlene was born in Bismarck, ND on July 8, 1941.  At age 8, her family moved to Butte, ND where her father was the depot agent.  She graduated from Butte High School and lived in Butte until she married Donavon Zakopyko on May 23, 1959.

Earlene worked as a nursing assistant at a Moorhead (Minnesota) nursing home for 20 years and was honored by being named Nursing Assistant of the Year.  In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, canning, angels, bingo, and chatting by computer with family.  She was a member of the Martin Lutheran Church in Casselton. 

She is survived by her husband, Donavon Zakopyko, Casselton; a son, Alan (Brenda) Zakopyko, Grand Forks; and a daughter, Donene Nelson, St. Charles, MO.  She is also survived by six grandchildren; a sister, Margie Day, West Fargo; and a brother, Earl Gene Ward, Waterford, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ida Ward; three brothers, Auman, Dennis and Gene; and one son, Curtis Zakopyko.

  10. Hi mom! Its been almost 11 years since you’ve gone to a better place. I just now found this site and wanted to say I know you’re still here with me. I get signs. Especially when the “I love you more” picture fell from my bedroom wall into the hall on the first Mothers Day without you. You are my inspiration and always be . I miss you so much! I love you even more.
