James (Jim) Pyle  passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Veterans Administration  Hospital, Fargo.

Jim was born to Lester and Nellie Pyle in Mapleton, ND on June 27, 1930 at the family Home in Mapleton. He grew up, attended school, and graduated from High School in Mapleton in  1948.  Jim attended Dakota Business College. After graduating he took a job at Minot Motors where he worked until enlisting in the Navy. Jim served in the Navy from  1951 to 1955 and in the Naval  Reserve for 24 years in Fargo.

James S. Pyle and Christina Gapp were married at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo, on April 14, 1956. Jim worked at Firestone for a time before joining Nodak Mutual Insurance Company in 1960. He worked for Nodak for 34 years, retiring in April of 1994.

Jim was a charter member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Fargo and served as Treasurer and President of the Society.

He is survived by his wife, Christina;; his children, Timothy (Jeanette) Pyle, Phoenix, AZ, Laurinda (David) Pyle-Webber, Fargo, Tom (Kate) Pyle, Puyallup, WA; his sister, Dorothy Hinz, Fargo; his grandchildren, Connor and Cody Pyle, Dylon Pyle, James, Stefan, and Tristan Webber. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Harvey and Donald.

Memorials are preferred to the Fargo Catholic School Network.

  2. Mahnomen MnJim, I served a lot of years with you in the Navy Reserve and you were a pretty good sailor. We missed you when you retired from the “Chief’s Mess”. You and chief Miller would have some interesting conversations about what would be a legal claim to Nodak for missing livestock that would end up in his freezer.

    Jim was, a very nice first cousin! He is 6 years older and I did not know him until the early 1950’s when my folks moved me to West Fargo, but I have had the privilege of knowing him for 60 years. I have only good memories of Jim!
