Janis Dawley

janis dawley
Janis Dawley, 77, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Munich, ND, passed peacefully in her daughter’s home on August 2, 2015 surrounded by family, embraced by love. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom, for nearly 21 years, and their two infant children Laurie Ann and Mary Jan; along with her parents Leo and Clara Goeser; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Omer Tholkes; and brother, Denis Goeser. She is survived by her 3 children: Delbert (Cassandra McCullough) of Shakopee, MN; Kathryn (Paul) Appold of Burnsville, MN; and Theresa of Richfield, MN. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ian and Hannah Appold and Rebecca, Thomas and Sarah Dawley. Additionally, she is survived by 2 sisters, Bonnie (Gilmore) Braaten of Devils Lake, ND and Phyllis (Jim) Allen of Audubon, MN; sister-in-law Margaret Ann Goeser of St.James, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Janis was born on her parent’s farm in Calio, ND, on September 11, 1937. After attending St. Mary’s High School in Devils Lake, she took note of her future husband at her sister’s wedding. She fell in love and, after a brief three-month courtship, married Tom Dawley of Munich, ND, on November 28, 1959. Hard work ethics, strong family attachments and deeply rooted faith guided Janis during her entire life. Her faith grew throughout her marriage to Tom. This faith led her to donate time to a wide variety of organizations, including churches, schools and hospitals. All of which were enlivened by her witty humor and chic sense of style. Her faith guided her through difficult times and helped her to complete her life with a grace that will remain a strong example to her family. We will cherish and love her always.

  5. I am deeply saddened by the loss of Janis. What a beautiful and blessed woman! Janis left this earth knowing she was loved. What a peaceful ending that is just the beginning.

“For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land – a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills;” (Deuteronomy 8:7) Janis is now reunited with Tom in that beautiful land.

And for you, her family, “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:5-6)

May God continue to bless you as He carries you during this time.

  15. To Janis’ family,
We were so saddened to hear of Janis’ passing. We just returned from out of state to hear of it this morning
(Friday). We would have attended her funeral to honor her memory. We were next-door neighbors on Prairiewood Crossing and were blessed to know her all those years. She was truly a “classy woman” and so generous with her time and love in helping others. May God bless and comfort you.

  16. I am so sorry to hear the sad new about Janis. I was a classmate at SMA class of 1955. We had many fun times in school as young people. I live in Devils Lake so I was lucky to see Janis and Tom many, many times over the years. I am sure they are both very happy to be together again in heaven!

  17. How wonderful to witness Janis’s grace and beauty in full bloom – through the love of her family. I was blessed to be her God Child, and have such lovely memories of visits with Tom and Janis. They surely made me feel special, and with the years of cards and letters, I know they prayed for me. (I do have vague memories of meeting you as children, and of Janis and Tom at my Confirmation, I was 11 or 12 when they visited in Bismarck and gave me The Best of Bread album for my birthday. Before we moved to Japan, Dan and I visited them in Munich with our year old first son. And her warmth and hospitality when visiting with her since our return to Bismarck.) Even now at her death, I’ve received an extra hug from Janis, discovering that her children recall my name. My sympathy to you all. Surely God’s blessing ends you forth!

  18. We send our condolences to the family of Janis. We truly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know her through St. Anthony’s. She had a great spirit and was always fun to visit with. We will miss her! She brought her delicious Munich coleslaw recipe to the menu of the St. Anthony’s annual Fall Bazaar, so we will remember her each time it is served. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  19. Dear Del, Kathryn, & Theresa,
What an incredible Mom you have had. She was always so sweet, and genuine in her care and concern for others. She loved on all of us “kids” when we stopped in. She emanated joy. Your Dad was also a great man. You could see how much they truly loved each other and had so much fun together. It was beautiful and inspiring. You three are examples of well-raised, deeply loved children. I know your loss has been tremendous. My hope is that you still feel your parents’ love at those times you need it most…like now. And that you feel the loving prayers of the rest of us through this difficult time. May God Bless you and yours.
