Jean Kappel

Jean Ann Kappel, 81, died April 6, 2012 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND formerly Rugby, ND under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Jean Ann was born March 22, 1931 in New Rockford, ND, daughter of Clemence and Hermina (Hartl) Lies. She lived on her family's farm near Bremen, ND and went to school in New Rockford, where she graduated from St. James High School in 1949. She attended and graduated from Valley State University with a major in elementary education.
On August 10, 1953 she married James Joseph Kappel in Bremen. They lived and taught school in Tolna, ND and Rugby, ND. After spending most of her adult life in Rugby she moved to Fargo in 2004 where she lived at Trollwood Village. Due to her health, Jean moved to Rosewood on Broadway in 2009 and lived until her death.
She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby and Holy Spirit, Fargo. She was an American Legion Auxiliary member for 54 continuous years and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters. Jean volunteered many hours during her life to 4-H, PTA, Scouts, religious education and music lessons.
She is survived by a son, James (Connie) Kappel, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Meagher, Grand Forks, ND; Patty (Jeff) Drege, Casselton, ND; Theresa (Rudy) Balentine, Milford, NH; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and siblings, Agnes Regan, Devils Lake, ND; Clemence (Ginger) Lies Jr., Reno, NV; Rosemarie (Ernie) Lasheski, Lebanon, OR; Louis Lies, LaVista, NE; Susie (Leonard) Dyrness, Helendale, CA; Ruth (Tim) Breider, Fridley, MN; William (Karen) Lies, Woodland, CA; Ron (Eunice) Lies, Leander, TX; George (Bernie) Lies, Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a grandson, Brandon James Drege.

I treated your Mother many times while working in Rugby, in the PT Dept.
She came to me as we were setting up the new dept, in 1974-She was fun, and very knowledge-able and could talk about so many things, and alway wanted to know bout things she was not familiar with. We could always get a chuckle out.

Jean was not only a relative of my Dad’s but a member of our family. She stayed with us when she taught in the Fairville
school. My mom and Jean had lots of fun.
She always remembered my folks on their birthdays with a card or phone call.
