Jean Marguerite Schulte, age 93, of Fargo, ND died on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Rosewood on Broadway. Jean Marguerite Nelson was born March 9, 1916, to Dr. Kent and Edith (Wills) Nelson in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Jean started school at Plattsburg, New York, then they moved to Minneapolis and she finished 8th grade at St. Lawrence Catholic School. They then moved to Manila, Philippines where Jean attended two years of High School. Omaha was their next home and Jean graduated from High School. Jean attended University of Minnesota, joined the Chi Omega sorority and graduated in June 1940. Jean met George N. Schulte, Jr. (a student of Dentistry) on University of Minnesota campus and they were married June 21, 1941 in the St. Paul Cathedral. George’s cousin, Father Louis Keller officiated the ceremony. Their first Air Force station was Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, DC. Duty started July 7, 1944. They were assigned to Carlisle, Pennsylvania in August 1941 for school. They moved to Montgomery, Alabama on October 15, 1941 and on to Nashville, Tennessee on July 4, 1942. Nick was born September 10, 1942. The next home was Columbus, Ohio, where daughter Nancy Jean was born on January 4, 1944. Fort Meyers, Florida was their next stop on January 24, 1944. George went to Honolulu in June 1945. Jean, Nick and Nancy went to Minneapolis to stay with her Mother, Edith Nelson. George went to Korea in December 1945. Jean and the children joined him in September, 1946. All came home from Korea December 1947 and were assigned to Kearny AFB, Nebraska. In April 1949, they moved to Williams AFB, Chandler, Arizona where their second son, Kent Robert was born June 2, 1949. Seventeen months later, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where Susan Joan was born on December 31, 1950. Susan was only one month old when they uprooted again to Gunter AFB, Montgomery, Alabama. During their four year stay, Mark John was born December 12, 1954. They moved to Hamilton AFB, California in August 1955. In December 1957 they moved to Papillion, Nebraska. In January 1958 they moved to Offutt AFB, in Omaha, Nebraska. The Schulte family (now 7 in number) flew to Wiesbaden, Germany in August 1961. After 3 wonderful years, they returned Stateside and were assigned to Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Illinois in August of 1964. George retired in June of 1965 and the Schulte family settled in Moorhead, Minnesota. Many good memories were made at the Pelican lake home that George, his brother Bob and son Nick built. In 1980, after George retired from the Air Force, George and Jean bought a home in Palm Harbor, Florida. George died September 1985. Jean continued to live in Florida until 2000. She then moved to Riverview in Fargo, North Dakota. Jean is survived by her son, Nick of Berkeley, CA; her daughter, Nancy Wardlow of Fertile, MN; her son, Kent (Linda) of Nevis, MN; her daughter, Susan (Robert) Hinsperger of Fargo; her son, Mark of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. FUNERAL MASS: 11 AM Friday, July 17, 2009 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Fargo VISITATION: one hour prior to the service in the church on Friday BURIAL: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Moorhead, MN
