Jean Sheeley

Jean L. Sheeley, 82, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Sanford Hospital.
Jean was born November 24, 1929 to Jesse and Minnie (Thill) Kemmer in Fargo, ND.
Jean married Edward W. Sheeley on June 7, 1949 in Moorhead, MN.
She cooked at Mapleton School for over 20 years until 1995. In 1995 their home was bought out because of flooding and she moved into West Fargo. Her grandkids said their cousins had enjoyed her cooking for over 20 years and that she needed to cook for them. So every Wednesday she made a meal and had up to 19 kids usually her grandkids and their friends. For 10 years she worked for the Red Hawks, cleaning the concourse, etc. In 2005 she threw out the first ball at a Red Hawks game. She loved to play cribbage and race horse with her family. She also worked for the West Fargo High School taking tickets for girls and boys swim meets.
Jean is survived by her children, Michael (Terry) Sheeley, Forest Lake, MN, Elizabeth (Richard) Ackerland, Mapleton, ND, James (Karen) Sheeley, Sauk Rapids, MN, Linda (William) Waxler, Fargo, ND, Clifford (Gail) Sheeley, West Fargo, ND, Patricia Brooks, Fargo, ND; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and one on the way; brothers, George W. Kemmer, Carlsbad, CA, Richard Kemmer, Fargo, ND and James Kemmer, Delton, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Jack, Thomas and Jerry Kemmer, and her husband.

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO TO ALL THOSE WHO LOVED JEAN, ESPECIALLY HER FAMILY. I HAD THE HONOR TO COOK BESIDE AND LEARN FROM JEAN WHEN I WAS A YOUNGER GIRL (AGE 15-19) SHE WORKED AT THE HARWOOD CAFE WHERE I TOOK MY FIRST JOB IN LIFE. WE HAD SO MANY GREAT VISITS AND I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM HER. MAN, I REMEMBER HER MAKING ALL THOSE DOUGHNUTS EACH MONTH. THEN WE WOULD EAT THE FIRST 10-12 WITH A BOWL OF SUGAR FOR DUNKING. THANKS FOR ALL THE MEMORIES JEAN.

My thoughts are with the Sheeley family. What a great family and what a great person Jean was! I have great memories of her. I remember her cooking at the school at Mapleton. When the high school closed, and 5th & 6th graders got to go to the kitchen to help serve with Jean it was awesome. I remember she had so much fun and the food was great too. Heck, I remember then going to LE Berger for middle school and then on the off school days we’d stop by at noon and have lunch at school with her because we loved her cooking so much! I also remember delivering the Sunday paper to her for many years. She will be missed. What a truly great person!

Jean was very special to both the Harland and Odegaard families and it comes with great sorrow to hear of her passing. She was like a second mother to many in the Mapleton community and we all feel fortunate to have been a part of her life. She was a caring and giving person, who was always willing to help whenever she saw the need. One of the most memorable were the rolls on Easter morning at the Mapleton church.
Her laughter and smile will always be remembered. It is comforting to know that when we meet again they will be there to greet us.
May you all find peace in sharing the many joyful memories of Jean.

I was sorry to read of Jean’s death. To me she will always be one of the Mapleton ladies I will never forget. Jean always seemed “young”. She was great fun to visit with whenever our paths would cross. She will be missed.

I only knew Jean for 8 hours while I cared for her at Sanford, but she really made quite an impression of what a wonderful person and family that she had by her side every step. She had such beautiful eyes and always a great smile that just lit up the room whenever I came in to check on her. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and hope you can find comfort that she is at peace now.

I’m so sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. She was always so nice and pleasant to talk to. The last time we talked was at Scott Harlands Funeral and it was like 20 years never went by.

This is so hard to believe and tears are no surprise. I love(d) Jean as my 2nd mommy and I think many of us did. She was there with an open door and supporting words whenever they were needed and at whatever age.

She made me very welcome in Fargo, as I and my family visited the area, she shared so many stories of my grandpa Bert Heaton, and I will never forget her and her welcoming us, and making us always feel completely as though we belonged.
