Obituary

Jeffrey Lee Jones, 66, of Sabin, MN passed away November 28th2013, in his home surrounded by his family.

Jeff was born February 14th, 1947 in Little Fork, MN to William and Wilre (Chichester) Jones.  Jeff grew up in Minnesota and briefly lived in Colorado during his childhood.  In 1965 he graduated from Hibbing High School in Hibbing, MN and in 1970 he met the love of his life Sheryl (Claussen) Jones in Minneapolis, MN.  They moved to Dilworth, MN where Jeff worked for the Minnesota Highway Department, and on April 8th, 1972 Jeff and Sheryl were married in Glyndon, MN.  In 1977 Jeff began work for American Crystal Sugar, in Moorhead, MN where he suffered an industrial accident.  Though he endured several physical injuries, he went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Illustration at Moorhead State University in 1985.

All of Jeff’s life he had a passion for “old cars,” and attended several swap meets and car shows every year.  A self-proclaimed “Ford Guy,” he restored numerous cars and enjoyed driving them around town with Sheryl.  Every week Jeff looked forward to Friday lunches with his car buddies – to retell car stories and discuss the latest projects.  Over the years his car collection has encompassed many different years and models including a Ford convertible that represented every decade from 1910 to 1970.

Jeff was survived by his wife Sheryl – Sabin, MN, daughter Kim Settel (Alex) – Fargo, ND a granddaughter Madysen Settel – Fargo, ND, two brothers; Larry Jones – Chico, CA, Donald (Peggy) – Mesa, AZ, an aunt, Patricia Conat – Rapid City, SD, his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Glen and Audrey Wintersteen – Sioux Fallls, SD, and two brother in-laws and four sister-in-laws; Gaylon and Sue Bunger – Sioux Falls, SD, John and Beth Claussen – Sioux Falls – SD, Carla Clausssen – New Brighton, MN and Pattie Jones – Anaheim, CA .  In addition, he was survived by numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parent, his father-in-law Edwin Claussen, two brother-in-laws; Reverend Lynn Claussen and Jerry Claussen and one nephew Scott Jones.

merrill WISheryl & Family: I’m so sorry for your losses. Jeff was one of the most enthused car Buddies a guy could ever have. He could look at most things with excitement and say “That’s just plain neat!” When I was young, I Learned a poem that I thought was neat. It goes: “As the Golden Sun is setting and the road you no more trod, may your name in Gold be written in the Autograph of God”. Jeff’s name is truly written in Gold. If there is anything we can help out with or do, please let us know. Your friends, Merf & Jean Leih.
