Jerome O'Hearn

Dr. Jerome W. O?Hearn Jerome O?Hearn, age 77 died peacefully at Rosewood On Broadway on August 23, 2007. Jerry was born on April 10, 1930 to Margaret Crowley and William O?Hearn in Ellsworth, MN. He attended public school in Worthington, MN and college at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Minnesota. In 1956 he graduated from Medical School at the University of Minnesota. In 1958 he married Joy (Moe) O?Hearn. They met at the University of Minnesota Newman Center and have been married for 49 years. Jerry served in the US Air Force as a flight surgeon in Morocco and the Azore Islands. When he returned from Africa, he received his Master?s Degree in Otolaryngology through his residency program at the University of Pennsylvania in 1962 and became Board Certified. Jerry and Joy moved to Fargo in 1963 where he joined Fargo Clinic and worked as a physician for 31 years. Jerry held numerous hospital appointments including chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology and Chief of Staff at St. Luke?s Hospital. He was respected by many for his skill as a surgeon and his kindness and humor as a physician. He performed surgery and consulting at the Veterans? Hospital in Fargo. Jerry was Assistant Professor and Clinical Instructor at NDSU and the University of Minnesota Medical School. Jerry was proud of his Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland with Joy in 1988. He had a quick wit and was a good story teller. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and friends. He loved nature and shared his knowledge of the outdoors with his children. Above all, family was important to Jerry. He was very proud of his children and enjoyed visits with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Jerry is survived by his wife, Joy of Fargo; six children, Michael of Austin, TX, Catherine (Mike O?Neill) of Chicago, IL, Margaret (Jim Tschida) of South Bend, IN, Mary (Greg) Moore of Seattle, WA, Jim of Baxter, MN and Tom (Christy) of Renton, WA; 16 grandchildren, Christopher, Sara, Rebecca, Hannah, Maya, Ella, David, Ethan, Sarah, Kayla, Tara, Andrew, Connor, Emily, Grace, Jacob; brother, Connie (Sandy) O?Hearn of Cherokee, IA; sisters, Mary (Bob) Erickson of Minnetonka, MN and Margaret O?Hearn of Portland, OR and daughters-in-law, Shirley O?Hearn of LaCrosse, WI and Sam O?Hearn of Baxter, MN. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Rosewood On Broadway for their kindness and care. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. Visitation: Friday, August 24 from 6:30-8:30 pm at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo and one hour prior to Mass on Saturday. Prayer Service: Friday at 8:00 pm at the church. Funeral Mass: Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 pm at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Interment: Holy Cross North Cemetery, Fargo. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
