With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our loving mother, Jodie Lynn Landin, 59, Fargo, ND formerly Warroad, MN. She made her way to Heaven on Friday, July 5, 2019 at her home.
Jodie was born November 15, 1959 in Luverne, MN to Clarence “Casey” and Carol (Schrader) Lommen. She was the oldest of 4 and described by her mom as “a good little girl who was always proper and would never think of doing anything wrong.” She went to school in Hills, MN through 6th grade when her family relocated to Roseau, MN where she graduated. Jodie went to college at Moorhead State and East Grand Forks.
Jodie married John Landin in 1982 and they resided in Warroad, MN. Together they had two children, Jennie and Tanner, that became her life and she loved being a mother. She was a great mother at that! Jodie never missed any of their activities and her home was one where the kids’ friends often gathered. Jodie’s home was a place of comfort and her door was always open. While in Warroad, Jodie worked for the City and the Police Department as an administrative assistant. She also taught confirmation at Zion Lutheran Church and cleaned the city library. She made her kids go with to the library to dust and vacuum!
Jodie’s best friend while she lived up north was her late Grandmother Ruby Lommen. Jodie would go to Roseau where Ruby lived regularly to visit Earl’s Drive In, the park, or the DQ. Jodie would occasionally bring Grandma Ruby home to Warroad for slumber parties which entailed popcorn and ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire”.
Jodie moved to Fargo, ND in 2016 to be closer to family. She enjoyed visiting and spending time with her parents in Lake Park. Carol and Jodie enjoyed shopping, thrift stores, flea markets and just being together. There was never a dull moment with the two of them in the same room and it was guaranteed you’d hear lots of laughter. Jodie made a lot of us laugh; in fact, she even made herself laugh. Ha!
Jodie also had a special talent of being creative. She made many beautiful scrapbooks and cards. The other talent Jodie had was the ability to go all in when she found something she enjoyed. She has more scrapbooking things and holiday decorations than the general population combined.
Jodie also loved to love on people. She often put others before herself and found a new love of thrifting – giving things she found at thrift stores to others. She took the “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” to a whole new meaning. Delivering totes upon totes to her family and neighbors she never showed up empty handed. Her granddaughters thought every day was a holiday when Grandma Jodie came around.
The last few years of Jodie’s life were hard for both her and those who loved her. Jodie struggled with depression and alcoholism. She tried many times to overcome the battle. If you are reading this and are struggling, please know you are loved and it’s not too late! 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on God because he cares for you.”
She will be sorely missed and survived by her parents, Casey and Carol Lommen of Lake Park, MN, her brother Toby (Stephanie) Lommen of Moorhead, MN, and her sister Heidi Lommen of Fargo, ND; her children Jennie (John) Hedstrom, Moorhead, MN and Tanner (Kassiann) Landin, Forest Lake, MN; her grandchildren Nora, Molly, and Bo Hedstrom and Henry Landin; many aunts and uncles; cousins; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandpuppies Lily and Chevy; her sister Jamie Hokkanen; her uncles Rick Burggraf, Buck Schrader, and Gordon Lommen; her aunt Janet Erks; and her grandparents.
Please join us celebrating her life at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 1:00 P.M.
