Jody Odegaard

jody odegaard
Jody Scott Odegaard passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his home. Jody was born February 23, 1960 in Moorhead, MN. He was the seventh of seven children born to Donald and Irene Odegaard. Jody received his formal education at Mapleton, ND, graduating in 1977, a year early, because he wanted to graduate from Mapleton High School like all his brothers and sisters. This small town is also where he received his most important education, that of life. His two most influential teachers were his mother, Irene and his father, Donald. It is here where Jody learned an excellent work ethic, and learned to be honest and compassionate to others. Jody worked in the gaming industry for over three decades. He started as a dealer and then became a site manager for several charities. He then worked in the gaming supply business over the last decade. One of his coworkers said that he was such a dedicated worker that he came into work even when he wasn’t feeling well because the job had to be done. She said Jody inspired all of us to be better. Jody was a man of few words but his words meant something. He was always good natured, liked to tease, had a wry sense of humor, and always had a smile (some would call it a smirk) on his face. Jody was always willing to help somebody and was loyal to his friends and family. He loved cats and always had at least one cat all of his life. Jody married Jacki Halvorson on November 18, 1989. Their son Jared was born September 7, 1991. Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Irene Odegaard and his mother and father-in-laws, Helen and Walt Halvorson. He is survived by his wife Jacki, son Jared, Fargo, step son Chad Andel, Fargo and step daughter Richelle (Russ) Vigen, Moorhead and two beautiful granddaughters, Sydnie and Alisha. Oh, how he loved them! He is also survived by his siblings Pam (Mike) Dahl, Fargo, Wally (Mary Beth) Odegaard, West Fargo, Cindy (Marv) Skar, Fargo, Danny Odegaard, Fargo, Kevin(Cindy) Odegaard , Mapleton, Becky (Randy) Unterseher, Fargo. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, including Jacki’s siblings Vicki (Kim) Lein, Gwen (Curt) Goodman, Brenda (Bryan) Fredrickson, John (Faye) Halvorson. Jody, we have always loved you and we always will. Rest in Peace. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 18, 2015 with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Horace. Online guestbook at www.boulgerfuneralhome.com

Guestbook

  1. Becky and families,
I’m so sorry for your loss. Jody was a great guy whom I had the pleasure of working with for a few years. May God bless you all in your time of sorrow. Please know that my prayers and thoughts are with you all.
R.I.P. Jody as you become a guardian angel for your family!
    Kari

  2. Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences during this difficult time. Jody was my cousin, and I have so many fond childhood memories of playing cards all night long in the Odegaard home in Mapleton, playing for pennies, and then following our card playing, we would walk to the store and buy long sticks of bubsdaddy gum and other candy.

May God comfort all during this difficult time! Blessings and Peace! Rest in Peace Jody!!!

    Rob & Kathy Odegaard

  3. Richelle, Chad, and family – You are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find peace and comfort in the prayers of those who love and care about you.

  4. Oh Jackie, my heart goes out to you. Reading the obituary, I cried and I laughed. The wry sense of humor and that smirk is what I always liked about Jody. What a great guy. I really loved working with him and remember fondly the fun that we all had together. God’s speed Jody.

  5. I did not know Jody well at all. I grew up and graduated from Mapleton High with his brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Cindy. I vividly remember Jody running around town with my younger brothers. I want to pass on my deepest sympathies to the family of Jody.

  6. Jody was a one of a kind and it makes me sad that I will never see him again. My heart goes out to Jacki and family and my thoughts are with you. RIP Jody.

  7. To all of Jody’s family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you all as you share cherished memories together.
    Lynn & Guy (Cindy’s cousin)
