John Carley

John Carley, age 60, died on August 12, 2006 with his family and loved ones by his side. He died with pride and dignity after a brave fight. John was born on November 23, 1945 in Glendale, CA to Ralph and Marion (Stuckey) Carley. He graduated from Sierra High School in Whittier, CA and entered the Navy in the fall of 1963. He joined the Navy to see the world and never left California. He was discharged in November 1966. He attended college and graduated from California State College at Long Beach. He married Shirley Smyers on February 8, 1969 in Highland, IN. They raised their family in Orange County, CA. He worked for Texaco for most of his career, retiring in 2004 when he and Shirley moved to Lake Ida, MN. He loved life by the water with family and friends?sailing, pontoon rides, and relaxing on the deck. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons: Dane Carley (Alicia) Hawley, MN; Todd Carley, Plymouth, MN; three grandsons: Gunnar, Cade, and Teague Carley, Hawley, MN; siblings: Susan Muldoon (Tom) California, Mary Ann Jennings, British Columbia, Nancy Harrison (Brad) Hawaii, and Chris Carley (Teresa) California. He is preceded in death by his parents. A private celebration of John?s life will be held at a future date.
