Obituary

John William Murphy
On May 8th, 1995 God gave John Murphy to the world. On September 18th, 2005 He asked for John back. John fought hard with cancer for two years but was simply unable to overcome the disease.
John was born in Hamilton, Montana to Jim and Denise Murphy. His older brother Steven welcomed him into the world. Later, he and Steven welcomed his younger sister, Rachel, into his family. They lived in Montana, Mason City, Iowa and eventually settled in Cummings, North Dakota. John started school at Hillsboro Elementary in August of 2000. He excelled in his schoolwork, taking great pride in the work that he accomplished. He made many friends, all of whom he will miss greatly. There is little doubt that they too will miss him. He greeted each day with enthusiasm and the zest for life of someone who loves what they are doing. He was a generous and faithful friend.
John liked to fish, swim, play video games with his friends, and read a great deal. He liked playing golf with his family and friends; he especially liked driving the golf cart. John took great pride serving God in his duties as an altar server at St. Rose of Lima parish in Hillsboro.
Despite some very trying times, John enjoyed a Make-A-Wish trip to Orlando Florida last spring, a fantastic trip to South Dakota?s Mount Rushmore area in July of 2005 and a truly blessed day with Fargo?s ?Happy Hooligan?s? Air Guard unit on August 30th. These among many other great memories will help his family and friends cope with this loss.
John celebrated his life, vowing to, ?live until I die.? He inspired so many with his faith, fortitude and intensity. His bright smile made the others around him feel good, even if he wasn?t feeling too good himself. John was a great light to everyone whose life he touched.
The great people of Roger Maris Cancer Center and Meritcare Children?s Hospital helped give his family two more years to know him, and for that they are grateful. John benefitted greatly from their great care, diligence and grace.
John was preceded in death by his great-grandparents and paternal grandmother, Vada Murphy.
John is survived by his parents, brother Steven, and sister Rachel, grandparents Helen and Kenny Farrell of Larimore, Bette and William ?Spud? Murphy of McCanna. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, fellow parishioners and even those whom he inspired but didn?t know. He is also survived by the school, community and church that knew and loved him. He is now, peacefully, ?fine?.
