John S. Pavek, age 83 of Fargo, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo. John was born on September 2, 1922 in Pisek, ND to John R. and Julie (Novacek) Pavek. He graduated from high school in Pisek in 1940. After graduation, John entered the US Navy where he was stationed at Pearl Harbor on the USS Maryland. He served in the Navy for 6 years and was also stationed in the South Pacific. He married Rosalie Kadlec on February 8, 1944 in Pisek, ND. After returning home he joined the Fargo Police Department and served there for almost 40 years, retiring at a lieutenant. John was in the Naval Reserve for 14 years, commander of the VFW for 2 years, Sir Worthy Knight of Columbus, served as Grand Knight for 2 years for Knights of Columbus, was a member of the Elks, Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was also instrumental in starting the Fargo Youth Commission. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cottage on Lake Sallie. He was an avid gardener and volunteered at the Fargo Food Pantry the past 19 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin. John is survived by his wife, Rose of Fargo; daughter, Kaye (Tom) Sullivan of Hamden, CT and their children, Annie of Phoenix, AZ and Jill (Ron) Zdan of Strasburg, VA; daughter, Julie (Roy) Warner and their children, Kim, Jason and Steven, all of Springfield, VA; son, J. Dwight (Candi) Pavek of Portland, OR and their children, Allison of Portland, ME, Ashley and John C. of Portland, OR; son, Brad (Monica) Pavek of Fargo and their children, Savannah of Pocatello, ID and John Q. of Fargo; Brian (Barb) Pavek and their children, Melissa, Megan, and Audrey, all of Maple Grove, MN; daughter, Kari (David) Marsh and their children, Madison, Sydni and Dustin, all of Brooklyn Park, MN; Kevin?s children, Kevin, Jr. and Jared of LaCrosse, WI; siblings, Ann Pinhero of Deerfield Beach, FL, Roland (Norma) Pavek of Eden Prairie, MN, Les (Bernice) Pavek of Fargo and Pat Kramer of Cedar Falls, IA. Visitation: Monday, July 31 from 6-7 pm in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Rosary: Monday at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. Prayer Service: Monday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Funeral Mass: Tuesday, August 1 at 11:00 am in Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Burial: Wednesday, August 2 at 1:00 pm in the North Dakota Veterans? Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
