Julia Bakken

Julia Bakken Hillsboro, North Dakota Julia passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 87. Julia Stigen was born on July 14, 1922, the daughter of Peder and Elizabeth (Bjelkevig) Stigen in Caledonia, ND. She grew up in this area and attended school in Caledonia. Julia was united in marriage to Oscar Bakken on February 9, 1946 in Moorhead, MN. After their marriage they made their home in Hillsboro. Julia and Oscar lived in Hillsboro for many years where they raised their family. Julia also worked at the Hillsboro Elementary School as a cook for over 23 years. Oscar passed away March 21, 1992. Julia entered the Nursing Home in 2002. Julia is survived by her children, Jerome Bakken of Grand Forks, ND; Beverly (Terry) Wika of Hillsboro; Dale (Doris) Bakken of Hillsboro; Don (Barb) Bakken of Williston, ND; and Randy Bakken of Carrington, ND; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and her brother, Irvin (Lois) Stigen of Grand Forks, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers, James and Archie Stigen; her sister, Ila Meyer; and her grandson, Darin Bakken. FUNERAL: 10 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, ND VISITATION: One hour prior to the service in the church on Tuesday BURIAL: Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro, ND Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
