Kathy Harrington of Fargo, ND died at Sanford Hospice House after a 4 year cancer journey.
Kathy was born Aug 29, 1948 to Henry and Jeanette Montplaisir, and grew up on a farm near Horace, ND with 11 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Kindred High School in 1966, and from North Dakota State College of Science Nursing school in Wahpeton, ND in 1968. She married Larry Harrington of Sutton, ND in 1969. They lived on Air Force bases in California and Alabama until settling in Moorhead, MN in 1975.
Kathy worked as a nurse at St. Ansgar’s in Moorhead and Dakota Clinic in Fargo, and she helped Larry run a photography studio until he passed in 2010. She served breakfast at Homewood Suites in Fargo and volunteered with the VA and AmeriCorps.
Kathy was a selfless, cheerful, positive, generous, spiritual, loving soul who lived to help others. Her home was always open (and often full) to short and long term guests. She loved to laugh, read, travel and just spend time with people. Her family and friends meant the world to her, especially her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Her big heart had room for everyone she met, and new friends quickly became lifelong friends.
Kathy is survived and adored by two sons, Grant(Sarah) of Fargo, ND, Mark(Erin) of Covington, WA; four grandchildren, Brandon of St. Paul, MN, Kayla of Cannon Falls, MN, Zack and Josh of Covington, WA; five brothers, David of Manassas, VA, Edward(Mary) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Bruce(MaryBeth) of Onamia, MN, Ronald(Linnea) of Portland, Oregon and Michael(Wendy) of Fargo, ND; four sisters, Eleanor of Fargo, ND, Karen(Rick) of Oakdale, MN, Rosie(Tom) of Rush City, MN, Linda(Mike Schwab) of Brooklyn Park, MN; sister-in-law Carolyn of Portland, OR, and countless more family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry of 40 years, her parents Henry and Jeannette, two brothers, Jerome(Joan) and Richard, sister-in-law Shirley and brothers-in-law, Clifford Larson and James See.

Kathy was a very special person to me. It’s really to bad she had to suffer so long but now she is free of her pain and with her husband and her parents in heaven. Peace be with her!

I am so sorry to read of Kathy’s passing. She was a wonderful lady & always encouraged me at exercise classes. I will truly miss her. But happy she will be reunited with her husband. Our thoughts & prayers are with the Harrington Family.
Kathy was a wonderful,dear soul. I have known Kathy since 1969 when she married Larry. She never changed her priorities of family first and wore her heart on her sleeve She help raise two sons who Ward and June would be very proud of. She will be missed

So sad to hear of her passing. We lived in the same apt complex, and became friends. We traveled together to New England and the Maritime provinces. Roomies! We had a great time! Wonderful memories. I am happy she is back with Larry and at peace🙏
Condolences to Kathy’s family. Although I didn’t see her frequently it was like we just picked up where we left off when we did meet! We were childhood neighbors and high school classmates.
She had great faith and leaving this earth on Easter is such a sign that she is our Angel now!

My thoughts and prayers are with you! Your mom was a very special lady. I first knew her as a parent at St. Francis. Then over the years, our paths crossed at many weddings as she and your dad did wedding pictures and I was the wedding coordinator. When your dad passed away, your mom came to Griefshare which I facilitated. I will treasure the many different experiences I had with your mom. I just found out of your moms passing. I am very sorry for your loss Grant and Mark. I have several wonderful memories from our time at St. Francis as kids and from the times I saw your mom at church now as an adult. Your mom was always so kind and had that amazing smile on her face. Please find comfort in knowing you have many people thinking about you and praying for you all.

We send our condolences at the passing of your mom. Roger and I had the good fortune of knowing both your Mom and Dad as our lives crossed paths in both Fargo and Moorhead. Our first meeting of them would have been through the HAPPY HOOLIGANS. Like Roger, your Dad was also a WSO and your Mom a supportive spouse. As parents we too cheered on the Moorhead Spuds. How well we recall your parents, your father with camera in hand and your Mom cheering, at the Dome in 1987 when the Spuds won the State Football championship. We appreciate the photos we still have in our home that were from Harrington Photography. One of the last times we saw her she was talking about her position at the Homewood Suites and referred to herself as the “breakfast lady”. We can only imagine how many people she started their day off on the right foot serving them breakfast with her warm smile! Her upbeat, friendly and warm personality will be greatly missed.
May the memory of your Mom be a blessing to you now and in a lifetime to come.

My prayers for the family. I knew both Kathy and Larry from the St Francis church. Kathy could truly put a smile on someone’s face as she always had one on hers. She was a genuine blessing to anyone who knew her. She will be missed.

I just wanted to share a few things that I have heard around the Bethany staff.
Kathy was one of our favorite peoples, sitting down and getting to know her and learning about her life was always so incredible. She had such a beautiful and creative soul, who always made sure that before she asked for anything she always said hello and smiled and asked us how we are doing. Something that really stood out to all of us was how incredibly loving she was towards her family. Her children meant the absolute most to her and you could always find her smiling while she thought of them. She loved seeing her kids and always told us about them and we heard a new story every single day. If ever any one of us had a spare minute we always spend it talking to her. She was so beautiful to know, and working with her never felt like working. She became like a mother to all of us, especially during Covid when many of us didn’t have the luxury of seeing our loved ones as much as we would have liked. The word lost a beautiful and elegant soul, and I can’t wait to see her again.
