Katie Aberle

Katie Aberle, age 91, Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at Innovis Hospital. Katie Gross was born on a farm near Napoleon, ND on August 18, 1914 to Mathias and Barbara (Schweitzer) Gross. She attended a country school. She lived at home until her marriage to Gabriel Aberle on October 10, 1934 at St. Anthony?s Church in Napoleon. The couple farmed near Edgeley, ND, and in 1945 owned and operated Aberle?s Grocery at Berlin, ND. They moved to Fargo in 1952. Katie worked at NDSU for many years, retiring at age 62. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Katie drove until the age of 90. She still spoke German fluently. Katie was preceded in death by her husband in December 1980, and an infant daughter, Imelda. She is survived by her children: Ann Brown, Sun City, AZ, Fran (Sylvester) Rickers, Moorhead, MN, Matt (Rose) Aberle, Mohall, ND, Gabriel (Nancy) Aberle, Watertown, SD, and Zach (Marion) Aberle, Minot, ND; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three sisters: Elizabeth Aberle, Wishek, ND, Barbara Brendel, Napoleon, ND, and Benedicta (Ray) Kotta, Roseau, MN.
