Kenneth O. Geerdes, 82, of Davenport, ND died Tuesday, October 14, 2003 in Meritcare Hospital Fargo, ND. Ken was born August 27, 1921 to William A. and Martha (Buchlotz) Geerdes. He graduated from Davenport High School. He farmed in the Davenport area for several years with his father and brother before joining the Standard Oil Company in Bismarck, ND in 1947. In 1956 he became an agent for the Standard Oil Company, a position held for 26 years. He then became an Independent Jobber. He also had a plumbing and heating business and was a partner in the Davenport Grain & Fertilizer Company. On August 24th, 1947 he married Lila Johnson in the Davenport Lutheran Church. He was a life time member of the Church serving as trustee and deacon. He helped organize the Davenport Fire Department and served as Chief and Secretary. He was a charter member of the Davenport Lions Club, Davenport Senior Citizens and for many years served as President and Sexton for the Davenport Cemetery Association which he took so much care in. He also served on the City Council and was a life member of the Fargo Elks and the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and going to auction sales. He also enjoyed the Lion?s Fondue and Wednesday luncheons at the Son?s of Norway, with the Standard Oil - Amoco Annuitants. He and Lila spent 40 summers at their cabin on Pelican Lake and many winters in Arizona. Kenny and Lila were married for 56 years. He was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had a great compassion for all animals especially the orphaned dogs and cats. He is survived by his wife Lila, one son Ronald (Patricia) Geerdes, Pelican Rapids, MN. One grandson Gregory (Amy) Geerdes, Vergas, MN one granddaughter Gina (Gerald) Stanford, West Fargo, ND, two great-grand children, Jayden Geerdes and Anna Stanford. He is also survived by 2 brothers and 3 sisters: William B. Geerdes, Burnsville, MN, James Geerdes, Richmond, VA, Eileen Conway, Seattle, WA, Marcella (David) Wilson, Michell, SD and Marlys (Carl) Grindberg, Davenport, ND. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral for Mr. Geerdes will be Friday at 2pm at the Davenport Lutheran Church, Davenport, ND. Visitation will be at the Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND Thursday from 5-7pm and a Prayer Service at 7pm at the Chapel. Burial will be at the Davenport Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Fredrikson Funeral Chapel in Kindred, ND
