Kevin Michael Ferris, 48, Duluth, MN, formerly of Moorhead, died on Friday, March 29, 2013 when the small plane he was flying went down in fog near Hawley.

Kevin Michael Ferris was born on March 25, 1965 in Moorhead, Minnesota to Michael and Sharon (Sullivan) Ferris. He grew up in Moorhead, attended Moorhead schools and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1983. Kevin then attended Wahpeton State School of Science and Moorhead State University. He worked at KXJB for 25 years until moving to Duluth, Minnesota.

He received his Ad Altare Dei Award and the Eagle Scout Award while belonging to the Scout Troop at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Scoutmaster Tom Hall.

In 2011 Kevin took over ownership of a retail flower shop in Duluth called The Rose Man and became well-known in the community for his kindness and generosity.

Kevin was a wonderful man.  He had a powerful bond with all of his children and was cherished by his parents and sister.  He created a beautiful family and shared his home with his best friend and partner.  He will be remembered for his kindness, and his gentle touch.

Kevin is survived by his parents, Michael and Sharon Ferris, Moorhead; his sister, Kristin Ferris, Fargo; his fiancé, Roz Randorf, Duluth; his sons, Michael Ferris, Brandon Ferris, and Simon Randorf; and his stepson, Spencer Pitzel.

Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Antoinette Ferris, Gregory Sullivan, Clarence and Gladys Walford and his uncles Jerry Ferris and Tom Sullivan.

    I am sorry to hear the news about Kevin. I worked with him at KBJR TV and bought beautiful flowers from him at The Rose Man Shop. He was an extremely nice person, I am happy our paths crossed. Thoughts and Prayers go out to his family. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

I never new Kevin as an adult, but I knew the spirit inside his heart. I’m sorry for your loss and I understand how hard it is, but know that Kevin is being well taken care of and is not alone.
