Kirk Bradley Cossette was born May 5, 1961 and was the 3rd child of Renold and Dorothy Cossette, with siblings Bruce and Becky. Kirk spent his entire life along the bank of the Red River farming, raising a family, and enjoying the outdoors. He graduated from Fargo South High School in 1979. After High School Kirk went on to obtain an Associate’s Degree in carpentry from Moorhead State. With the skills he learned he built a home for his family in 1987 and then built another closer to the farm in 1992. Throughout his primary and secondary schooling Kirk became at 5th generation Cossette farmer, working with his father Renold and brother Bruce on the established homestead that was settled on in 1869 where the Red and Wild Rice River meet. Kirk was proud of the Cossette Farm legacy and continued the long tradition helping his two sons become the 6th generation to continue the legacy. Andrew and Max worked daily with Kirk on the farm instilling in them the values of being a good steward of the land. Kirk spent 34 wonderful years with his wife Becky (Kressin). Like any marriage they leaned on each other and were perfect compliments to one another. Kirk and Becky had three children, Andrew, Brianna, and Maximillion as well as a furry family member, Magnum, whom he cherished all as equals. Family was a main focal point for Kirk. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren Wyatt, Bennitt, Graham, Weston, and Sloane as well as grandpuppies Sofia, Piper, and Colt. He would spend hours laying on the carpet playing with the grandkids and all the puppies in his life. Kirk was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending his time hunting the woods along the Red River and being outside enjoying the lake. Kirk and Becky built their future retirement home on Crystal Lake where they spent every free weekend enjoying the lake life and the company among the shoreline. Kirk found peace at the lake and enjoyed sharing the experience with family weekly. Kirk also loved hunting pheasants, deer, and coyotes but nothing made his trips more enjoyable then sharing that experience with friends and family. When winter came Kirk enjoyed his other favorite past time snowmobiling and would take time to ride the MN trails with friends and family and would also make trips to the mountains in search of fresh powder. Kirk often searched for reasons to be in and the amongst the great outdoors. Kirk died of a sudden heart attack on December 30th, 2021. He is preceded in death by his Father Renold, Mother Dorothy, Sister Rebecca, and Dog Magnum. Kirk is survived by his loving wife Becky, Son Andrew (Brittni), Daughter Brianna (Charlie) Aarestad, Son Max, and Brother Bruce (Sandi) as well as 5 Grandchildren Wyatt, Bennitt, Graham, Weston, and Sloane. Kirk was the ultimate family man and will be deeply missed by the loving family he left behind. In lieu of memorials, please send donations to St. Benedict’s, or CHI Hospice which took great care of Kirk’s mother last year. Kirk's Video Tribute can be viewed below:

  17. Dearest Becky, Andrew, Brianna and Max~ I am wrapping you in prayer and hugs. I think back when Jarett and Max had playdates and I would drop him off at your house. As a farmgirl I had to say hello and show love to the protective farm dog! It’s just in a farmgirl’s nature. Krik soon gave me a new nickname “The Dog Whisperer.” Most every time I would run into him after that, that was his name for me and I was proud!
May the perpetual light shine upon him now and forever.
