LeMar Glen Larson, age 90, Fargo, ND, died Sunday, November 8th, 2020 at Sanford Hospital surrounded by family.
LeMar was born December 21, 1929, to Levi and Gladys (Bakko) Larson in Fargo, ND. He attended elementary school and high school in Walcott, ND. LeMar worked alongside his father, Levi and Uncle Lloyd Larson at their farms in Walcott township. LeMar was inducted into the US Army on January 24th 1952. He was stationed in Germany while serving during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Judith Heglie at South Pleasant Church, ND, on August 20, 1952.
LeMar was honorably discharged from the military in 1953 at which time they moved to the family farm in Richland County near Walcott, ND and farmed together until 1997. In addition to farming LeMar had a passion for caring of animals including his livestock of cattle, hogs, horses and the family German Shepherds. During the winter months he drove semi-trucks for the Rustad Trucking Company out of Kindred, ND. After retiring from farming, he and Judy worked together for several years at Baker Nursery in Fargo where they were able to continue their love for tending to plants. Le Mar especially enjoyed his time at Baker being part of the the landscaping team on multiple projects throughout the Fargo–Moorhead area.
Le Mar was a member of Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Walcott. He was actively involved in Lutheran Brotherhood and served decades on the “potato crew” for the annual Walcott Lutheran Lutefisk Supper.
He was a dedicated member of American Legion Post #166. For many years he was the Sergeant-at-Arms for the Honor Guard and considered it a privilege and honor to recognize his brethren that gave their lives to serve our country. Le Mar also enjoyed cooking, hunting, gardening and photography. LeMar was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished family gatherings with them where he would often serve his famous barbeque ribs.
Le Mar is survived by his children: Debra Altman of McKinney, TX, Michael (Lori) Larson of Horace, ND, Patrice (Steven) Schumacher of Plymouth, MN, Darci (Bryan) Doneff of Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren: Lt. Col. Scott (Stacie) Tyley of Round Hill, VA, Meghan (Wesley) Davidson of Dallas, TX, Jessica (Brent) Torgerson of West Fargo, ND, Brett Larson of Walcott, ND, Lyndsay (Scott) Lynch of Newport Beach, CA, Bridget Schumacher of Newport Coast, CA, Alec (Erin) Schumacher of Forest, VA, Brittney (Nicholas) Johnson of Lakeville, MN, Jacqueline Doneff of St. Lois Park, MN; great grandchildren: Levi, Layla, Leighton and Lane Tyley, Brody and Braxton Torgerson, Carson and Cora Lynch, Annabelle and Ruthie Schumacher; sister: Elaine (Harlan) Boyer, Fargo, ND and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith and his parents, and Father and Mother-in-law, Albert & Minnie Heglie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Sheperd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, Walcott Cemetery Fund or your charity of choice. The family would like to thank LeMar’s caregivers at Edgewood Vista, CHI of Fargo and the staff at Sanford Hospital during these unprecedented times.

I worked with Judy & LeMar at Baker Nursery for many years. I can attest to their love of gardening and growing. They were “salt of the earth” folks and will be missed so much.

Condolences to the Larson family. We remember many happy times with both LeMar and Judy. Barbara especially remembers picking choke cherries with Judy in their shelter belt one summer, once when and LeMar tried to get her to polka at a wedding dance in the Walcott gym. LeMar was my childhood neighbor. My name is Alexis and he often forgot my name and would call me Alexa. He always made me laugh and offer me cashews when I came over, each time, forgetting I was allergic to them. He will be dearly missed. Love, your Walcott Neighbors.
LeMar was such a huge part of my adult life and I loved his smile, kindness, humor and love for his wife Judy and all his family. I enjoyed many visits at his home and many telephone conversations over many decades. He was always interested in my life and my family. I truly loved him and will miss home!! I am so blessed to have so many wonderful memories!! Fond farewell to one of the great ones❤️❤️

Sending my deepest sympathy to you all as you grieve the loss of LeMar. The loss of both parents in less than a year is terribly sad and very hard for all of you I’m sure. I so enjoyed all of my visits with both Judy and LeMar over the past years …family gatherings, visits at the farm and church functions! Mike and I were stranded at the farm for a few hours during a winter storm-“Walcott White Out”. Judy and LeMar took us in, served us food and beverages along with a fantastic visit! Great People…Great Family!

Debbie, Mike, Patty & Darci, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I have many fond memories of both your Mom and Dad. When Judy was in the hospital with Darci’s birth, I stayed with the rest of you until Judy and Darci came home. I don’t know how your Dad ever survived my cooking! In the mid 1950’s I was walking down our driveway as Judy and Lem were driving home from Walcott in their pickup. Your Mom was sitting close to your Dad and I thought that was so sweet. My condolences to all of you.

I worked with both Judy and LaMar at Bakers for many years. What a great team they were. I remember one story that LaMar told at the end of one day out landscaping. The young new kid came to LaMar, telling him that his shovel did not work right. Well, LaMar just smiled, and told him that there was another shovel in the back of the truck.That one would probably work better. I can just see him smiling and shaking his head.

So hard to believe that Judy and now LeMar are no longer with us. They were such a shining example of how be more than overcomer’s regardless of the circumstance they faced. There are so many things to love about these two especially their love and dedication to each other and their family. Though they are gone, they will always live on in our hearts. LeMar is with Judy again, which is the best place to be. He leaves many memories with those of us that knew and worked with him. We landscaped 100’s of houses, planted 1000’s of trees all of which will be reminders of LeMars legacy. We are better people for knowing both Judy and LeMar. Sorry to hear about this passing, but I was happy to have met this man who loved farming and loved his family. His faith shone through, and still does. Rest in peace.
I am so happy that I got to know LeMar and Judy. He was such a kind person and patient to be able to work with me. There are so many stories I can recall, but I remember him helping some young landscapers fill there wheelbarrows since you are wasting a trip if it isn’t full. He did nothing half way. My girls still remember a day at the Lake Kabekona with Judy and LeMar. Family was so important for him and spending many days with him I was blessed to see the joy his family brought him wether it was kids, grandkids and great grandkids. I hope I can be half the man he was. Rest In Peace.
