Obituary

On Saturday, March 29, 2014 our dearest Lenora, while surrounded by her loving family, was told the bingo numbers were higher in heaven so she decided to leave this world to play the biggest game ever.

Lenora was born April 6, 1938 in Ulen, MN to Oscar and Mary Strand (Hollevoet).  Lenora grew up in Ulen where she graduated from Ulen High School.  After graduation Lenora moved to Fargo where she worked for Manchester’s, Silverline, Welcome Wagon representative, and different gaming organizations.  Lenora met David Halvorson in 1955 and wed on August 11, 1962 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN.  She was a devoted housewife and mother.

Lenora loved playing cards, bowling, bingo, dancing, and watching her favorite sports team the Minnesota Twins.  Her pride and joy were her puppies: Jake, Foxy and belated Johnson.  She loved the grandkids coming around and teaching her how to play solitaire on the computer and how to Facebook.  Lenora was a very caring and giving person, her forwardness was not limited to family, but if she cared for you, she felt comfortable to share her thoughts.  She had a great spirit and was always interested in people and enjoyed life.  Despite her challenges with health issues, she strived to live life to its fullest.  Although her body failed her, she was sharp and witty until the end.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, David; her 5 children, Brenda (Tom) Stout, Pelican Rapids, MN; David (Diane) Halvorson, Fargo ND; Kimberly (Brad) Larsen, Ham Lake MN; Darin Halvorson, Detroit Lakes, MN; and Kari Manteufel, Green Bay, WI; one sister, Julia Olson, Martinez, CA.  She also had 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret, Margorie, and Vina Melbye (Hellem); and brothers; Hartvig, Arvid, Morris, and Herman.

She will be missed by all.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Lenora will truly be missed. She suffered with her pain for so long but never did I hear her complain about it. She was a very strong person, full of the dickens at times and that is why everyone loved her so much. Going to miss you at Bingo Lenora. The bingo Palace in Heaven is waiting for you!
    Sincerely
    Karen Amundson

Roseville Mn My thoughts and prayers are with the Halvorson family today. They lost a wonderful caring mother and wife. My family was invited on Christmas Eve to share their traditional celebration. Lenora treated my daughter as she was part of the family and treated her like a daughter. This was many years ago. Rest in peace Lenora.

I have such fun memories of Lenora. I looked forward to seeing her at the family gatherings and could hardly wait to hear what she was going to share. I am going to miss how she brightened up the room with her charm and whit. I shared a ride with her to Fosston for Uncle Roger’s funeral. She made that trip fun and exciting. We stopped in Twin Valley for a ‘soda’ at a quaint little place and she new everyone there. She filled the room with laughter. Back in the car to finish our journey, she hit some pretty high speeds and the highway patrol just pointed at her to slow it down. She waved and kept on a moving down the highway. I can’t believe we didn’t get pulled over. What a gal! Prayers and hugs to you all!
