Leon Bjella

Leon Bjella, 82, of Fargo, died at Innovis Hospital surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 13, 2008. Leon was born on September 17, 1926 in McIntosh, MN to Levor and Amelia Bjella. He grew up there and graduated from high school in McIntosh. Leon enlisted in the Armed Forces and served during WWII. After his discharge from the service, he attended school in Bemidji, MN and then at UND in Grand Forks, ND. After finishing at UND, he worked in St Paul, MN. On November 30, 1962, Leon married Mavis Schwandt in Webster, SD. They moved to Jamestown, ND in December of 1962. In 1969 they moved to Fargo, ND and have lived here since. Leon worked for RR Express Mail Clerk and then the US Postal Service, retiring in December 1989 after 39 years. He sorted mail the in the morning at Community First and volunteered for 18 years at the Evergreens delivering mail to residents. Leon is survived by his wife, Mavis of Fargo; children Peggy Anderson, Jody (Steve) Schoenberner, Linda (Dan) Sandbeck all of Fargo. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mike Cornell, Chad Cornell, Lisa Cornell, Jason Dodd, Andy Perhus and great grandchildren Kaylie, Serria, Skyler and Sadie. Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND 1 hr before the service at St John Lutheran Church Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at St John Lutheran Church Interment: Milbank, SD
