Leon S. Perhus passed away February 10, 2018 peacefully in his sleep with daughter Pat Pladsen present. He was (almost) 96 years old and under the care of Red River Valley Hospice and Sheyenne Crossings. Leon was born March 5, 1922 in Kindred, ND to Loui and Hannah Perhus in the farmhouse bedroom which is now the kitchen. Leon lived in rural Kindred, ND until 2012 when they moved to West Fargo due to health. Leon graduated from Kindred High School in 1940. He remained in Kindred farming with his Dad and brother Orville. Later on Leon and Orville started hauling livestock to the stockyard in West Fargo. Leon continued farming until he was in his late 80s. Leon also worked for American Crystal Sugar until 2003 when he retired after 30 years. Leon married Yvonne Marie Barfuss on April 8, 1950. They continued to live in rural Kindred where they raised their five children until Yvonne passed away in 1975. Leon married Marian Aldrich on July 11, 1981. They lived on the family farm in Kindred until they moved to West Fargo, ND in 2012. Leon belonged to the Son’s of Norway and was a member of the Perhus Cemetery Board. Leon was the oldest lifelong member of the Kindred Lutheran Church. He was very active in Church activites and the community. Leon and Marian enjoyed traveling. They went to Hawaii and also to Norway where they saw where and what his ancestors had done. They also traveled extensively around the United States visiting family. Leon is survived by his wife Marian; five children, Pam (Floyd) Whitaker, Rochester, MN; Pat (Sherman) Pladsen, Minot, ND; Sandy (Terry) Rath, Lone Tree, CO; Keith (Terri) Perhus, Prescott, WI.; Duane Perhus, Ottertail, MN; six step children, Linda (Marlyn) Gjestvang, West Fargo, ND; Susan (Alan) Pollard, Louisiana; Eileen (Frank) Laska, Louisiana; Rodney Aldrich, Finely, ND; Brian(Beth) Aldrich, CO. Thirty-five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; sixty-seven great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren. Leon is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Yvonne, two brothers, Orville and Philip; sister, Esther Lilly Dahl; one grandson (Whitaker); one granddaughter Sheila (Perhus) Novak; one great-granddaughter Josie Yvonne Gilbert; and two step sons Roger and Wayne Aldrich.

  5. I was blessed to meet Leon one in the summer of 2011 while I was visiting my grandparents (Floyd and Pam) I was welcomed as one of his grandkids. I know that he will deeply be missed. And heaven has gained another angel.

  6. So sorry to hear of your loss. Leon was always a joy to visit with especially at family reunions and the Memorial Day service at the Perhus cemetery. He will be greatly missed.

  7. My dad Rodney Lee is on vacation when he heard the news of Leon’ s passing.
    He made a comment that I wish I was home to attend his funeral.

    They sure enjoyed each other’s company.

  8. So very sorry I couldn’t make the funeral services! I did want to give mine, Mariah, and Rhett deepest condolences. Leon was a wonderful man and he will be missed by many people.
