Leone Mary Metcalf Clarens was called home to our Heavenly Father after a long and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis on Thursday, December 1, 2005. Leone so loved life, her family, and friends.

She was raised in Valley City and after graduating with honors from St. Catherine?s High School, became a bookkeeper for Gambell Robinson Grocery. She was Deputy Clerk of Court for Valley City for a time.
She married Richard ?Dick? Clarens on September 24, 1952 while Dick was on leave from the Navy. Dick returned from the Korean War and they moved to Wahpeton, ND where they enjoyed building their first home. In 1966 they moved to Park River, ND where she spent 20 years as a legal secretary for Roy A. Neste and Steven L. Currie Law Firm. She retired in 1992. They moved to Fargo, ND in 1995 where she enjoyed playing bridge with two clubs, and was a member of Holy Spirit Church.
Leone was an avid reader who passed her love of books on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with Dick and they had many wonderful trips together over the years. She was a wonderful cook and was especially known for her fantastic pies, cookies, and her delicate rosettes. Leone loved Christmas?it was her favorite time of the year. She loved everything about the season and generously planned many wonderful family celebrations. It is only fitting she is called home during this Advent Season to celebrate with Jesus.
Leone was an extraordinary woman ? courageous, warm-hearted, and above all else selfless. She lived her life to the fullest even with the limitations of her disease. Her greatest joy was her family. She especially treasured the many years of wonderful times at the lake with family and friends.
