On November 18, 2020, LeOra Ida Hewson, our loving, enthusiastic, encouraging mother has passed away. LeOra was born on December 15, 1926. She graduated from Dickenson State with a B.S. in education and art and studied Master’s Degree classes at Mary College. She married Don Hewson on June 5, 1950. LeOra had many passions in life! She was an impressive mother, educator, and civic leader. Her many accomplishments include her passion and ability to teach and make education fun by incorporating art. As a mother, she was the most positive influence in our lives. She was a powerful role model, and always current with today’s world. We will forever benefit from the wisdom she gave to all of her family. LeOra was always able to reach out and find the good and strength in people. Her smile and way of encouraging others is just a glimpse of our mother’s kindness. Many groups and programs were started in her community because of her commitment to help others. She was the State President of the VFW Auxiliary from 1979 – 1980, and held national offices for the VFW. She volunteered at the Democratic Kennedy Center, Bismarck President Tel A Friend, The Heritage Center, State Library, and Meals on Wheels. She was a judge for Democracy Speech Scholarship, Gold Award Recipient in 1983, and organized annual teas at Governor’s mansion for World War I veterans. LeOra was also a member of the American Association of University Women, Elkette, Catholic Daughters, Catholic lector and commentator at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. LeOra loved and encouraged all of those around her at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings, and we are so grateful to everyone she knew there. LeOra is survived by her three daughters, Diane (Joe) Sova, Kalispell, MT, LaVon Whipple, Boise, ID, and Patty (Jim) Charlebois, Sun City West, AZ; Don and Chris Blade, Chad and Casey Whipple, Cole, Aubrey, and Reece Charlebois; 11 great grandchildren.

  7. Your mom was one of my favorite teachers at Hettinger Elementary. I have not seen her in years, but I will always remember how kind she was as a teacher. That was so many years ago, but it seems like only yesterday, as I think about her now. For some reason, your mom and I developed a special bond. She was strict, but fair, and I always respected her for that. May God bless her memory, and be with you now in this time of sorrow!

  8. To LeOra’s family:
