Lloyd F. Zander, 88, Fargo passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2011 at Rosewood On Broadway, Fargo

Lloyd was born to Otto and Clara (Klindworth) Zander in New Rockford, ND on July 12, 1923. Lloyd graduated from High School and moved to Seattle, WA where he worked for the Naval Supply Depot as a dock worker in the shipping department. He married June Progefrock in Seattle, WA on October 5, 1942. He was drafted in April, 1943 at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis MN. He worked with the 330th Engineer division before being discharged on January 6, 1946. After his discharge, Lloyd moved to Fargo and began working with the VA in March of 1946 as a clerk typist. He later moved on to the North Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs after 4.5 years as a Claims Representative. He held that job until July, 1950 when Gov. William Guy appointed Lloyd as the State Commissioner of Veteran's Affairs, a position he held through the term of Governor Allen Olson. Lloyd retired on June 30, 1985.

Lloyd filled in at the Cass County Veterans Service Office as needed after retirement.

Lloyd loved woodworking, fishing and yard work. Besides being a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo, Lloyd was a Life Member of DAV, International War Veteran's Alliance, the American Legion, and VFW. He was past president of several of these organizations.

Lloyd is survived by his 5 children; Dave (Jeri) Zander, Fargo, ND, Tom Zander, Horace, ND, Joyce Denis, Fargo, ND, Rod Zander, Fargo, ND, and Richard (Cindy) Zander, Hastings, MN; 14 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife June, brother, George and daughter-in-law, June.
