LoAnn Fetzer

loann fetzer

LoAnn Johnson Fetzer was born March 14, 1945, to Edwin and Adelaide (Hetletved) Johnson in Robinson, ND.   She graduated from Tuttle High School in 1963 and then received her Degree in Elementary Education from Valley City State University in 1967.

LoAnn married Leonard Fetzer August 12, 1967 in Robinson, N.D. They moved to Grafton, N.D. until 1981 at which time they made their home in Fargo.  She was a teacher for 33 years, retiring in 2010 from Jefferson Elementary.

As a devoted mother, grandmother and teacher, children were always a priority to her. Many describe her as the sweetest person they know who was so kind and generous to others with her time and energy. LoAnn had a passion for reading, enjoyed a nightly game of solitaire, lunching with friends and occasional shopping trip. She was a talented seamstress who made quilts and blankets for her grandkids and there was no shortage of food in the home as she was always baking or trying out a new recipe.  LoAnn also enjoyed music and she sang in the choir at Olivet Lutheran Church for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Leonard; children, Lanny (Virginia), Lana (Matt), Landon; grandchildren; Mia Frice-Fetzer, Brindelyn Fetzer, Adalee and Elijah Anderson; mother, Adelaide Johnson; siblings, Eunice (Myron) Meidinger, Burdell (Theo) Johnson, and Janell (John) Quinlan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Johnson.

There is nothing that I will be able to say that will take away the pain and hurt, but please know that I have many childhood memories of sleep overs and playing at the Fetzer home and it brings back many smiles and wonderful memories of LoAnn.

  15. Dallas TX Leonard, Lanny, Lana and Landon,

I am so sorry to hear about LoAnn, I have great memories of your family living across the street in Grafton. Your Mom was always so nice and friendly and may parents so enjoyed having you are neighbors and friends. Leonard was a pallbearer at my father’s funeral many years ago.
I hope all the great memories you have as a family will ease the sadness you feel right now. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  16. Fargo I admired LoAnn and feel lucky to have worked with someone so kind and caring. She devoted any extra time she had to helping kids succeed and read that were struggling and needed more help. Not many would be so generous with their free time. She was generous in other ways too as she often anonymously bought supplies and clothing and even Christmas gifts for students that were in need. It is so unfair to her and her family to lose her just as her retired life was beginning. I hope in time peace comes to all of your hearts. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by her Jefferson family so much.

  17. bismarckn n.d.My sincere condolences to your family. Just remember what a great person LoAnn was and what she contributed to this world.

  20. LoAnn was my Reading Recovery colleague. She was consistently kind and pleasant, a talented, hard-working teacher who brought wisdom and quiet strength to any gathering. She helped so many young children and her fellow teachers, as well. I’m grateful to have known her and realize her family must be experiencing profound loss. She spoke so lovingly of her husband, her children and grandchildren. I’m sorry I can onlyoffer my deepest sympathy.

  21. Fargo ND
