Lois Virginia Schmit, 78, was born to Carl Johan and Gertrude Louise Dahlen on the family farm near Kindred, North Dakota.  Lois grew up and attended country school near Kindred.  She worked at the Ulness Drugstore in Kindred for a number of years, then for Farmers Telephone in Kindred.  Lois married M. Donald Schmit on September 17, 1950, in Lois' parents' home in Kindred.  Don and Lois moved to Casselton for two years before returning to Kindred to start a family.  She was a Scout den mother, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, a member of Hobby Club, and a Kindred Vikings fan for children, grandchildren and their friends. She was an avid quilter with the Norman Lutheran Church Quilters and in recent years sewed the bindings of hundreds of quilts at home.  Lois' pride and joy was her family, many of whom were surrounding her in prayer in her hospital room as she entered her eternal home. 

She is survived by her husband, M. Donald Schmit; her five children Diane (Neil) Dockter, Horace,  and their children: Tracy (Deano) Handt: Jaxon, Sydney, Marina, and John Myrhe, Brad (Amy) Dockter: Isaac, Avery Dockter, Kristin Dockter: Andie and  Zoey ; Mike (Marty) Schmit, Davenport:  Joey (Emma) Schmit; Pat (Vicki) Schmit, Davenport: ConnieSchmit; Kathy (Dennis) Sumption, Kindred; Jon (Michelle) Schmit, Milroy, MN; her 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Luther (Lorraine) Dahlen, Salem, OR; and Arthur Dahlen, Thief River Falls, MN.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gertrude Dahlen, brother John Dahlen, and great grandson Michael Handt.
