lorraine spelhaug

Lorraine passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo at the age of 93.

Lorraine Ruth Theodora Grant was born on May 30, 1919 in Northwood, ND, the daughter of Melvin and Leva (Myhre) Grant. She grew up on the family farm near Kindred, ND and graduated from Kindred High School in 1937. Lorraine continued her education at Moorhead State Teachers College, graduating in 1942. She taught in rural schools for three years, and then in Ellendale and Hebron, ND. On June 16, 1948, Lorraine was united in marriage to Ilert Spelhaug in Gol Lutheran Church near Kindred. They farmed near Walcott, ND until 1954 when they purchased the Grant Farm near Kindred. She held many offices in the women’s organizations of her church and also the congregation of Gol Lutheran. After Gol Lutheran closed, Ilert and Lorraine became members of Kindred Lutheran Church in 2002. In 2004, Ilert and Lorraine moved to Fargo. Ilert passed away in October of 2010, and Lorraine has made her home at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo since.

Lorraine’s family was her life. She was always interested in what her children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren were doing. She spent many hours praying for the safe keeping of her family and friends. Lorraine loved spending time in her kitchen cooking and baking.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Terry (Carlotta) Spelhaug, Renee (Steve) Anderson and Loree Gauffin; her grandchildren - Adam (Nicole) Spelhaug, Tyler Anderson, Taya Spelhaug, Ashley (Michael) Cassel; and her great-grandchildren - Ava, Grant, Izaak, and Sydney Spelhaug, and Elise Cassel; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ilert; and her son-in-law, David Gauffin; and sister, Harriet (Clyde) Engebretson; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

  10. LAKE TAPPS WaMy favorite memory of Aunt Lorraine was her laughter, joy, and love for her family, as she worked away in your farm house kitchen. It seemed like whenever I was there that she was always in that kitchen making something wonderful to eat. I will miss both your mom and dad!
