Luella (Lou) Milligan

luella (lou) milligan
Luella (Lou) Milligan, 66, Dilworth, MN, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Lou was born October 28, 1939 to Gottlieb and Bertha Wolf in Eureka, SD. When she was born, she lay there crying and the people looking down smiled. Now the people looking down are crying, and she is laying there smiling because she is in the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ, her Maker. Lou was educated in the Fredonia, Ashley, ND area, moving to Ellendale, ND when she was young. She worked at the Ellendale Hospital before moving to Fargo, ND in the early 1960?s. In Fargo she met her future husband, Edwin Milligan, who was in the US Army stationed at North Dakota State University in the ROTC program. They were united in marriage at Columbus, GA on December 18, 1964. They were stationed at Fort Benning from then until June 1965 when they made their first move as a military family to Germany. This started 15 years of moving from country to country and state to state. Lou adapted to and loved military life with all the hardships that are involved. They retired from the military in July 1979 and moved to Fargo where Lou was employed at the Base Exchange at Hector Airport, which services our servicemen and women in the area. While at the BX she made many friends. She worked there 15 years. In 1995 she retired. In 2002 she got involved with the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, moving up to Commander in 2004, and was still serving as Commander when she died. While Commander, she started numerous projects which helped our disabled veterans in the area. Lou enjoyed life with her many friends. She loved playing Bingo, and attending the Red Hawks games. What she really enjoyed were veteran celebrations and helping veterans in the community. This is the area she will be long remembered. Lou always thought of others before herself. She set an example of what she was in thought, word, and deed. She was always dressed perfectly and not a hair out of place. Others would comment on how nice she looked. One word to describe Lou is ?class?. Lou is survived by her husband, Edwin; and two furry guys, B.J. and Benji; her stepbrother, Don Ulmer, St. Paul, MN; stepsisters, Darlene Ulmer, Granite Falls, MN, and Shirlee Ulmer, Plover, WI; sister-in-law, Darlene Rott, West Fargo, ND; stepmother, Wilda Ulmer, Stillwater, MN. She is also survived by 2 nieces, Claudia (Mike) Urlaub, Gillette, WY and Deb (Rick) Fuehrer, Dickinson, ND; a nephew, Dan (Lisa) Wolf, Moorhead, MN, many nieces and nephews; and many many children who called her Auntie Lou even though they were not related.
