Lynn William Olund, age 66 of Fargo, flew to heaven on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Sanford Medical Center of Fargo, after a long battle with respiratory disease. Lynn was born on February 1, 1949 to Swan and Lily (Sperling) Olund in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was baptized in 1949 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1964. Lynn attended school in Detroit Lakes and Frazee Minnesota, graduating from Frazee High School in 1967. Lynn enjoyed playing trombone in the band.  He went to Indy races and marched with the band at the Indy 500. He went to college in Fergus Falls and after one year, he went into the Army where he spent four years with two tours in Vietnam.  Lynn’s favorite vacation was traveling to Japan with his mother. In 1973 Lynn met Sandi Kjos and they were united in marriage on October 25, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. After returning home from Vietnam, Lynn went back to school at Moorhead State for criminal justice, receiving his degree in law enforcement. He interned with the Detroit Lakes Police Department following graduation. He worked for the police department in New Rockford, North Dakota for 16 ½ years before working for the NDSU police department for six years. For 25 years, Lynn taught DUI seminars. Lynn’s pride and joy were his two children, and five grandchildren. During his last years he loved spending time playing computer games. Lynn is survived by his wife, Sandi of Fargo; his children Jason Olund and Cardell Olund, both of Fargo; his five grandchildren - Rebecca Lyn Olund of Fargo, Declan Thomas of Boston, MA, Skyler Cornell of Moorhead, Patrick Orestad of Belgrade, MT, and Liam Olund of Fargo. Also surviving are many very dear in-laws and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his cousin, Mike Mullaney, six aunts and an uncle. VISITATION: 5-7 PM Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo – and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Friday PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Thursday at Boulger Funeral Home FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 AM Friday, July 10, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo BURIAL: Riverside Cemetery in Fargo

  1. Sorry to see you go Lynn, you were a great guy, a good cop, soldier, and one hell of a good friend. You will be missed greatly. Sorry I won’t be able to travel to the funeral, as it is just to far, and my health will not allow it.

    Sandy, you and your children, and grand children have my deepest sympathy.
