Mabel was 99 years and five months of age at the time she passed away; she lived on their family farm close to Hillsboro,ND where she had resided from the time she was seventeen years of age. Mabel passed away on March 14, 2015. At the time of her death Mabel was a resident of Sanford Nursing Home of Hillsboro. At the time of her death, several members of her immediate family were with her. Mabel was born in Binford, ND Where she and her family, which consisted of her mother (Lena), her father (Cornelius), 4 brothers (Vernie, Chester, Raymond and Stanley) and 3 sisters (Lillian, Gladys, and Shirley) lived on their family farm near there. She attended a rural elementary and junior high school near their home. Much later in life Mabel earned her General Equivalency Diploma while she was living in Hillsboro. Mabel married Earl Mergenthal of Hillsboro and were married for 49 years. They spent their entire married life on their family farm by Hillsboro. There, they raised their 3 children: Roger, Susie and Robert (Bob). After Earl passed away, Mabel continued to live on the farm until she moved into Hillsboro where she established residence in Kellehor Manor there. She lived at the manor for thirteen years, and spent the past year and a half as a resident of Sanford Nursing Home. Mabel worked on the family farm all the while she and Earl had the operation. In addition to their own farm work, she would also work for a local potato farming operation during planting and harvesting seasons; she did this for nearly 30 years. Mabel was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church during all of the years she lived by and in Hillsboro. Her favorite pass time was playing cards; mainly: whist, gin rummy and pinochle. She also enjoyed baking, fine needlework and spending time with her family members. She is survived by her son Roger, daughter Susie (Charlie) Anderson, all of whom live in Hillsboro, sister Shirley Retzlaff of Cooperstown, ND, 7 grand children, fourteen great grand children and 1 great great grand child, 6 nieces and 10 nephews. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her son Bob, her mother, father, all of her brothers and her sisters Lillian and Gladys. Mabel’s funeral service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, ND at 11:00 am on Thursday March 19, 2015. The officiant of the service will be Pastor Siri Strommen Campbell. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 and will take place at Boulger-Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home following the visitation. Pastor Joe Johnson will conduct the prayer service. Mabel’s family sincerely thanks and appreciates the tender, loving care given to her during her stay at Sanford Nursing Home.
