margaret cichy

Margaret Anne Cichy, age 65, passed away peacefully in Grafton, ND, on Monday, January 21. Her family was with her. Margaret was born on March 22, 1947, in Fargo, North Dakota, the second daughter of the late Sid and Elaine Cichy of Fargo. Margaret attended Holy Spirit grade school and then, because she was born with developmental disabilities, eventually moved to the Developmental Center in Grafton, ND, which became her home. The staff at the center loved her, took care of her, and became her second family. Margaret was cherished by her family and is survived by her eight siblings: Michael Cichy, (Jeanne Aske) Moorhead, MN; Catherine McLaughlin (Warren), Excelsior, MN; Joseph Cichy (Charley), Bismarck, ND; Mary Grady (Thomas), Granger, IN; Nick Cichy (Vickie), Grand Forks, ND; Greg Cichy (Marlene), Sun Prairie, WI; Elizabeth Almstron (Håkan), Medina, MN; Stephen Cichy (Lisa), Somerset, WI. In addition to her father and mother, Margaret was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Cichy. There will be a memorial service on Friday, January 24, at 1:45 pm in the All Faiths Chapel at the Developmental Center in Grafton. The family will have a private service in Fargo and requests any memorial be sent to Catholic Charities of Grand Forks, ND, or the Presentation Sisters of Fargo.

  1. Fargo ND
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at the loss of your sister. Having a loving and large family must have been a blessing for her, and as you grieve, a blessing for all of you.
We still miss your parents in the neighborhood – seeing your mom out walking briskly or chatting over the fence with your dad when I would be walking our dog.
Mary – your story about your dad sweeping the gym has become one of my favorite and most often shared memories of him.

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with the Cichy family at the passing of your sister Margaret. I have such fond memories of growing up on the north side of Fargo, attending Holy Spirit & Shanley. ..the Cichy and Collins families shared so much. Celebrate Margaret’s life!
