Obituary for Margerie Wood died January 24th, 2008 at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND Margerie Gladys Wood was born March 17, 1924, in Hagen (near Prince Albert), Sask to Martin and Thille(Kjos) Gonvick. She was baptized in Saron Lutheran Church in Hagen and attended first grade in a school that spoke only Norwegian. When she was 7 years old, the family returned home to Gonvick, Minn. She attended schools in Gonvick and was active in band, cheerleading, and had a letter in Declamation. She was confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. On Jan 1st, 1942, she was married to Robert O. Wood in Gonvick and the couple spent a long honeymoon touring south to Florida and back home by way of New York City. They farmed in Benson County. In 1958, they built a home south of Devils Lake in Ramsey County where their five children were raised. Margerie was active in St Olaf and Peace Lutheran Churches, served as secretary of the ELCA Women?s group, was on the Pipe Organ committee, and sang in the choirs. She was President of Ramsey Co Republican Women in the 1960?s. Her children were the love of her life and she was active in encouraging them to attend college. She was a talented seamstress and sewed costumes for many of the Frost Frolic shows as well as for the LRJC productions and helped with Fort Totten Little Theatre. She was a member of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for three years. One highlight of her life was a trip to the Holy Land with her son, Rob, in 1981, for 6 weeks with a Concordia Seminar. She was a Girl Scout leader and active in scouting for many years. She enjoyed taking a few classes at LRJC especially in painting and sewing. Her garden was a joy to her and she worked many hours there. She lived in her home south of Devils Lake until 1998 when the lake began flooding her home. In 2000 she moved to Fargo to be near family. She is survived by four daughters, Pam (Gerald) Solwey, Fargo; SuAnne (Robert) Frasier of Grand Forks, Rose (Thomas) Trenbeath of Bismarck, and Mary(Jack) Garman of Townsend, Montana. She has 7 grandchildren: Ian and Britta Trenbeath, Robert Frasier, Emma (Will) Hyde and Anthony, Pam, and Claire Garman. She has 2 sisters in law: Averiel Wood and Cleo Deplazes as well as many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert;her son, Robert Jr, twin daughters Connie and Carol; five brothers, a sister, and their spouses: Mandel (Winnie), Clara (John) Hartley, Kermit, Ernest(Inez), Vernon( Marion) and Irving (Carolyn).
