Obituary

Marie Hauff, mother extraordinaire, passed on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at the age of 84.

Marie Ann Hauff was born December 29, 1921 in Oklee, Minnesota. She was a mother to her four biological children, her adopted daughter and many foster children. Known to caseworkers at Catholic Family Service as the mom who would take ?hard to place? children, she provided a loving home for children of all races, many of whom had been abused, or were mentally or physically disabled. Marie?s motto was, ?You can?t raise a child without a rocking chair?. Marie?s family and friends will remember her singing and telling stories to one or two children being rocked in her lap. Long time Fargo residents will remember Marie walking down the street pushing a stroller with several small children walking alongside. In 1992 Marie was honored as a ?Woman of the Year? by the YWCA. In a newspaper interview, Marie said, ?I?ve never had a lot of money, but I?m rich in many ways. These children who come need me desperately. And I can respond. I fill those needs?. Marie?s life was testament to the truth that, ?It is in giving that we receive.?

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Reynold, her parents, Permelia and Louis, and her siblings, Edmond Bernier, Leo Bernier, and Zelia Brown.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, flo (Galen) of Lahaina, Hawaii, Bob (Becky) of Moorhead, Minnesota, Elaine (Doug) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, David (Eileen) of Fargo, North Dakota, Muggins of Fargo, Lori (foster daughter) of Fargo; her grandchildren, Darin, Angela, Adam, Laura, Matthew, Jonathan, Kathryn and Ray; great-grandchildren Tabitha, Zachary, Brian, and Nicholas; siblings Emma Lessard and Wilfred Boucher; and scores of foster children.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 31 from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary?s Cathedral in Fargo. Burial will be in Holy Cross North Cemetery in Fargo.

Mom was an amazing lady, I had trouble in my teenage years and said thing’s that was not true and I hurt her feelings, I considered her my mom,she got me when I was 1yrs old, she showed me how to be kind to people less fortunate then me, she also fed the homeless, she taught me about God, to this day I do the same, I taught my children what she showed me, and I pass it on to my grandchildren, she always gave me the benefit of doubt, I loved her so very much, when things go wrong I think of her and I wish she was here with me to give me her smile. And a approving look, Mom may you fly with the ANGELS. .. Love Ida Mae
