Marie L. Kuhlmann, 98 years old, passed away June 20, 2011 at Rosewood on Broadway. She was with loving family and assisted by Hospice of the Red River Valley.

She was born Marie Lucille Radl at Sleepy Eye, Mn on May 12, 1913 to parents Mary (Faast) and Michael Radl. She attended St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye, graduating from high school in 1931. She attended the College of St. Teresa's in Winona, MN for three years.

She married Raymond B. Kuhlmann on February 14, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to Fargo, ND and, except for the war years, making that their permanent home.

An active volunteer, she was instrumental in starting the St. John's Hospital Gift Shop and running it for many years. She was a charter member and president of the Fargo Women's Athletic Club. She enjoyed reading, bowling, golf, hand crafts, and especially playing bridge with her friends. She and Raymond were proud charter members of Holy Spirit Parish in Fargo and she fondly remembered working in the concession stand at Barnett Field to help raise funds for the parish.

Survivors include her children; Michael J. of Brownsville, TX, Nancy (Ronald) Saeger, Fargo, Dr. Thomas (Kathleen) of Charlottesville, VA, and Dr. Craig (Anna) Fargo. Four grandchildren; Terry (Lisa) Saeger, Potomac Falls, VA, Matthew, Fargo, Mallory (Braden) Sutton, West Chester, OH, and Kallie, Fargo.  Three great grandchildren; Ian and Hannah Saeger, Potomac Falls, VA and Marrin Sutton, West Chester, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, and grandson, Sean McMenamy.

In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to Riverview Place, the Presentation Sisters of BVM Fargo, or Rosewood on Broadway.

The family wishes to thank the Rosewood staff and Hospice of the RRV for their loving care of our mother.

  8. Brainerd MN
My condolences to the family of Marie Kuhlman especially Nancy whom I would often meet while we were both visiting our mothers at Riverview Place. I ate dinner many times with Marie and Mom (Bea DuBord). Mom loved Marie and I did too. She was just such a delightful person, funny, knowledgeable, interesting, great conversationalist and genuinely interested in the people she was visiting with. How wonderful that she lived such a full and long life. May she now rest in peace.

  9. Dear Nancy,
    I was so sorry to
read of your Mothers passing. My sincere sympathy and sincere condolences go out to you and your
    family.
    Gary
