Marj Whittier,70, Fargo, ND peacefully went to her eternal home January 21, 2005 following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Marj was born to Merle and Vera ( St. John) Alexander at Bijou, MN on January 9, 1935. She graduated from Farmington High School, fell in love with and married John L. Whittier on September 25, 1953 in Decorah, Iowa. The couple lived near Castle Rock, MN until 1963 when they ventured northwest to Arthur, ND with their two daughters and two sons. Marj worked at First State Bank of Arthur for 8 years. In 1980, they moved to Fargo, ND where Marj worked in the Real Estate business for a few years. Marj?s life revolved around her family and her great talent for and love of music. She enjoyed singing for church services, weddings, and many other occasions that involved singing. She was an active member of the Fargo Civic Opera Company, which performs many popular music and theatrical productions.
Marj always had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and enjoyed being active in her church.
Marj is survived by her loving husband John L; her four children, Steve, Susan Iwen (Tom), Lisa Nelson (Mike), Mark (Kari Sandness); a sister Ruth Hauschildt Murphy (Joe); twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Marj was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Marvin Alexander and Robert Alexander.
Visitation: 4-8 pm Sunday, January 23 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo-and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday.
Prayer Service: 7:30 pm Sunday in the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am Monday January 24 at First United Methodist Church, Fargo.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
