Mary Henning, age 45, of Elim Nursing Home, passed away on August 3, 2003. She is survived by her parents, Mable and Joe Henning of Fargo,
sister Pat Henning Strother (Patrick) of Mound, Minnesota.
Mary was born in Fargo on November 23, 1957, with Down’s Syndrome. With the loving help of many teachers, Mary overcame her physical handicaps and attended school in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and worked for many years at the Valley City State University. She earned several longevity awards and she was the recipient of the prestigious and coveted Bill Sachter award.
She was a frequent participant in Special Olympics and enjoyed traveling to California, Hawaii, Florida, New Orleans, Nashville and Twins games in Minneapolis. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and was quite a bowler and loved music. She will be remembered for her outgoing spirit and desire to shake the hand of everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials for the Open Door Center in Valley City or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Mass of Christian burial to be held Wednesday, August 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Nativity Church.
