Mary Jo Reimer

mary jo reimer

Mary Jo passed away on September 17, 2011 at her home on Fox Lake, surrounded by her loving family, under the care of hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary Jo Meath was born on October 9, 1940, the daughter of Frank and Laura (Vore) Meath in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Shanley High School. Mary Jo was united in marriage to Herbert Reimer on October 18, 1958 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fargo. After their marriage they made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area where they raised their family. Mary Jo owned the Tall Fashions for Women store at the Moorhead Center Mall from 1980 until 1994. She later worked as a realtor for Edina Realty in Fargo for a number of years. Mary Jo and Herb spent many days at their lake home for years - making it their permanent residence following retirement.

Mary Jo most of all was a wife and mother. She greatly cherished every moment with her wonderful grandchildren.  She loved cooking, fine food and fine wine, the fashion world, and pontoon rides around Fox Lake. Mary Jo was a devout catholic with a strong faith.

Mary Jo is survived by her loving husband, Herb; her children, David (Arlene) Reimer of International Falls, MN; Cindy (Steve) Magnuson of Fargo; and Stephen (Carrie) Reimer of Powell, WY; her grandchildren - Matthew Schmidt, Aaron Bolter, Becky Reimer, Jeremy Bolter, Marissa Magnuson, Katie Magnuson, Kyle Reimer, and Cassidy Reimer; and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Pat Arth of Detroit Lakes; several nieces and nephews; and many other very dear relatives.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her infant son, Francis Joseph; her parents; her brothers - Donald and James; and several very dear brothers and sisters in law.

The family would like to offer a very special thank you to Mary Jo's wonderful caregivers - Drs. Tate and Gross and the entire Roger Maris staff, the special nurses at the Sanford Clinic in Detroit Lakes, and to the Hospice Team.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or to the St. Mary's Mission in Red Lake, MN.

Our sympathies go out to the entire family from Kevin, Lauren, and our 5 daughters. I wish our 5 girls had the opportunity to meet their Great Aunt Mary Jo.

  14. Champaign IllinoisI think this saying is appropriate in thinking about the life of Mary Jo: “Don’t cry because it’s over .. Smile because it happened.” She put a lot of smiles in everyone’s life and she leaves us with happy memories. God Bless Mary Jo!

  15. Mary Jo was a tremendous example for all of the years she was going through treatment, and making her transition with grace and faith. Herb, you can be honored for your caring for Jo in the most wonderful way. I thank you and Jo for sharing, from time to time, your time. Yvette

  16. Pflugerville Tx I’m so very sorry for you, her family, knowing how hard and long she fought her battle (I saw her at our Shanley 50th reunion). As mentioned I was her classmate at Shanley High School as well as St. Anthony’s grammar school. I’ll pray for you all in your grief.
