Mary passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo at the age of 87, surrounded by her family.

Mary J. Muldoon was born on March 30, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Ruby (Hutton) Muldoon, in Wetonka, SD. She grew up in this area, attending country school, and graduating from Barnard High School in 1943. Following her schooling Mary worked on the family farm. Mary was united in marriage to John Salo on September 12, 1946 in Ellendale, ND. They made their home in Oakes, ND before moving to Hillsboro in 1953. Mary worked at home raising her family when they were young, later working for many years at the grocery store in Hillsboro, retiring in the year 2000. In 2003 Mary made her home at the Kiwanis Housing in Hillsboro, where she greatly appreciated all of her friends.

Mary was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Hillsboro American Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing cards with her friends, working on puzzles and playing bingo, and attending the Hillsboro Senior Center events.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Leo) Ackerman and Doris (Dale) Bakken, both of Hillsboro; her son, David (Kris) Salo of Sturgeon Bay, WI; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Paul (Winona) Muldoon; sisters-in-law, Lila Muldoon and Betty Salo; and many nieces and nephews.
