Mavis Voracek, 83, formerly of Fargo, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, in the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, Minnesota. Mavis Irene Kilen was born August 25, 1919, on a farm near Glen Ulin, ND, the daughter of Carl and Frances (Monson) Kilen. She grew up on the farm and attended country school. She was united in marriage to George W. Voracek on June 8, 1945, in Moorhead, MN. The couple made their home in Fargo, where Mavis worked as a contract worker for the U.S. Postal Service from 1955-1965. In December 2001, Mavis moved to the Halstad Living Center. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, and was past president. She volunteered her time at the Veterans Administration Hospital. She liked fishing, dancing, and playing pinocle. She is survived by one son, Curtis (Seanne) Voracek, Grand Forks, ND; four daughters, Jean Voracek, Boise, ID, Eleanor (Ronald) Brown, Fargo, Patricia Radke, Burnsville, MN, and Janet (Murray) Steen, Dilworth, MN; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Florence Nagle, Mandan, ND, Grace Smith, Almont, ND, Etheleen (Burton) Hoovestol, New Salem, ND, and Charlotte (Edward) Thiel, Almont; and three brothers, Virgil (Lorraine), New Salem, Thornton (Caroline), Mandan, and Tharen (Mary), Mandan. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; two brothers, Norman and Raymond; and a great granddaughter, Tiffany Covington. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
